Forums - Gaming - Game Informer Is Pretty Damn Stupid

dtewi said:

I was just flipping through Game Informer to find some reviews of some games and a few previews. I read some of the reviews and thought "What the fuck?".

It criticized WiiFit for not being as good as other exercise programs. What the hell? Nintendo wasn't trying to create a fitness machine, just a game that can help shave a few ounces with fun. What? Did they expect to gain 6-packs from 10 seconds on it?

Oh, now this is just great. Here is a quote from their Mario Kart Wii review. "Losing the co-op antics of Double Dash is a severe disappointment". Is he serious? Is he honestly serious? What did that add except being able to hold twice as many items (which is possible in Mario Kart Wii by dragging the items)? All it did was screw with the weight class system. Light-weights would be the least common, and heavy-weights would be the most common in doubles. Why the hell is it a "severe disappointment"? Here are some other quotes. "(12 New Tracks and 12 Classic Tracks) Did they PLAY the game!? They also say "dumbing down" the turbo system, to prevent annoying snaking, was a "misguided desire to make it easier for grandma." I am disgusted. I will not say anything since it speaks for itself. One more. "This looks good... for a Wii game." This is true, but the "..." makes them seem like fanboys. They ultimately gave it an 8.5, but the context of it seems horrible.

And another article. "Where Are Wii?" They want to "address" the issue of where the Wii's are. They use the analysts of the industry. I don't know who Billy Pidgeon is, but they are using him in the same article as Pachter. Me thinks he is another stupid analyst. Pachter says that he hears no shortages in Japan and Europe so why are they stateside. He says that 720,000 Wii's should be shipped over to America instead of 450,000. He also says that Nintendo may be not releasing them over here due to the weakening of the US dollar. Ninty is stockpiling for Christmas and big games. There are OTHER places than Europe, America, and Japan. He is one of the stupidest things to ever curse the Earth, and Game Informer putting him in damages their reputation to a point of insanity.

There are many other retarded articles to go into, but I don't feel like doing it. There is a Wii shovelware article, and the Halo designer, James G., making the next Zelda.

This forum has helped me see how Game Informer is a pile of you-know-what. I never wish to read it again.

Feels good to finally have it off my chest. Discuss or agree.

Good post. It's so funny how all the quotes were just complete BS. As for the first bolded part: No, they propably haven't. Watching a minute long video on youtube is enough today to rate the game. Second bolded: Well, if replace Game Informer with most of the gaming media, i had noticed it long before i even knew about this sites existance.

Ei Kiinasti.

Eikä Japanisti.

Vaan pannaan jalalla koreasti.

Nintendo games sell only on Nintendo system.

True. IGN is the only place left. Other sites reps have been tarnished too much to accept a review from them. Gametrailers may have been an honest mistake, but it's re has been tarnished so we need to take it with a grain of salt.

When it comes to reviews, I tolerate Edge and agree with 90% of what Yahtzee has to say. Everything else is a waste of space IMO.

Or check out my new webcomic: http://selfcentent.com/

yeah game informer is definitely biased against the wii. 90% of the previews and reviews and articles are on hd games. and not having the two person kart isn't a big deal at all. the only reason it was good was because of the specials so you could balance out the specials any way you wanted. i always use dk for his defensive banana, and a koopa troopa for their offensive 3 shelled attack. (now taking out the specials i do think was a big mistake).

and yeah that little insult to ssbb in the sales chart section was just retarded.

i also liked how with the shovelware article they tried to make it seem like the wii has by far the worst software lineup when it should be clear to anyone that has a wii that isn't true at all. granted it has tons of shovelware which comes with the territory of blowing the other systems out of the water, and it has weak 3rd party support which comes from the developers not thinking the wii would be popular so they weren't working on any games until last year. but many wii games have gotten scores a bit lower than they should be cuz a lot of reviewers are biased because they care more about high-end graphics. (like mario kart! should've easily bee a 9 out of 10, although mario kart games are all for some reason rated way lower than they should be i guess reviewers don't like mario kart while everyone else does)

end of '08 predictions: wii - 43 million,  360 - 25 million, ps3 - 20 million

Games I've beat recently: Super Mario Galaxy, Knights of the Old Republic, Shadow of the Collossus

Proud owner of wii, gamecube, xbox, ps2, dreamcast, n64, snes, genesis, 3DO, nes, atari, intellivision, unisonic tournament 2000, and gameboy

I have despised GI since December, I feel that nearly every Wii review is totally biased and/or they just don't know how to play Wii games.

They reviewed Medal of Honor Heros 2, gave it a 6.75 and critized it not being as great on multiplayer as "the big boys" WTF? They also claimed controls were crap and only gave the review about an eighth of a page in the magazine.

No More Heros they gave a 6 to, claiming "combat controls never get passed button mashing" and "Making boss fights needlessly long to try the player’s patience".

To add some perspective, other games (non nintendo platform) they gave higher than a 6 to: NBA: Ballers Chosen One 6.75; Bee Movie 6.5; The Spiderwick Chronicles 6.5; Lost: Via Dominus 6.75; Jackass: the Game 6.25.

I mean seriously, how does No More Heros score half a point less than fricking Bee Movie?

Bias confirmed.

One of my staff a while back wrote a great article against Game Informer. Really exposed them for being anti-Nintendo.

More to the point, it discovered that Game Informer suggests their readers are anti-Nintendo and they play to that with their reviews, previews, etc...

Can you linky the article?  I'd love to read it.

GI was as good as dead to me after they gave Paper Mario TTYD a 6.5 because it was "teh kiddiez".

I'm not a hardcore gamer.  I'm not a casual gamer.  I'm a gamer.

Could some people try to dig up some other retarded articles?

Apparently, Assasin's Creed is as good as SSBB.

@DJmeisterJ

Sorry, I have a policy of not proliferating my own site links without valid consent from the owner. I'm sure you can find it with a Google search.

To be frank, almost ALL of the major video game media outlets, online and print, are either biased against something or favor a leading financier.

There are very few journalistic integrity watch groups for the video game media industry and they've taken serious advantage of that; the media and publishers.

The rEVOLution is not being televised

Couldn't find it.

Fun Fact: While googling for it, a VGChartz thread was a link.
