Forums - Sony - Did sony dodge piracy with the ps3?

sieanr, I was going to respond to the same comment you did. I think illegal downloaders are more than willing to download huge game file sizes.

However, it is still too expensive to burn blu-ray games to really make it worth it, unless there is some sort of HD Loader for PS3...I have have one of those for my PS2 so I don't have to change discs. Burning a game (if those are playable yet, I haven't researched it) would still cost as much as buying a DVD or in some cases (DL) blu-ray movie. If you are like me and buy gamefly games for $15-20 off, then the trouble of copying games isn't worth it. I'd rather have the box.

The 360 already has a huge piracy problem from what I gather, and the Wii is really easy with a mod chip. The PS3 has at least delayed mass piracy for awhile.

This is temporary. As soon as bluray is cheaper, piracy will be just as rampant as ever.

you can't "dodge" piracy

the wii used older tech, it was cracked essentially upon release. there are now multiple modchips for each iteration.

the 360 used pretty modern tech, but it was cracked within a year (forget the exact timeframe). people resist modding them because of the fear of being banned from xbl.

the ps3 used expensive tech, and it still isn't cracked. all they did by using expensive tech was buy themselves time. they are delaying the inevitable but who knows it could be worth it.

  1. BD burners aren't always going to be high.

If you ever want to talk to "get in business" let me know.

Not sure if you're trying to mock me there since I'm not sure why you would

The OP stated that one of the ways they dodged piracy is that many people don't have the burners.  They don't have burners because they are expensive.  When they aren't expensive they will become as common as every other burner.  When they're that common, anyone can burn a disc and that would kind of get rid of the they dodged piracy becaise of x reason idea.

I was just seeing if you wanted to get into a very legitimate movie oriented business.

Pirates will just mod the games to play off of hard drives if they want, and so blu-ray is moot.

As far as I know, and someone correct me if i'm wrong, but I haven't heard of anyone running copied games on a ps3 yet? I thought their piracy protection hadn't been cracked yet. Or was it just that they couldn't run homebrew code on it yet?

Yes

Pirates will make a chip as well as allow games to be played on the HD or they will compress audio to make games playable off of dvd9s

Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.

Nintendo Treehouse is what happens when a publisher is confident and proud of its games and doesn't need to show CGI lies for five minutes.

So they didn't dodge it , but delayed it? How long until pirates catch up?
