@Rocket, well the PS3 and Wii have only been out 1.5 years :P I don't remember ANY console that launched top-tier JRPG's out that fast, and given the obnoxiousness of the PS3 hardware I think if any console should be justified for a slightly longer release time I'd say the PS3 is in the running :P

I don't know where you're getting the idea that Disgaea 3 is unannounced, Rocket. All the sources I find say August 2008. 's true IGN hasn't updated their release date for the game, but they aren't that great at keeping track of smaller RPG's like Disgaea. But rpgfan.com as well as gamefaqs.com both put an American release for Disgaea 3 as August, unless I missed some announcement where they went back on that.

While that's definitely one reason for the delays, it doesn't explain it all away. MS had Blue Dragon out one year after launch. Lost Odyssey and Eternal Sonata were out two years after launch.

The way it looks right now, the PS3 could end 2008 with zero JRPGs in its library. There's Folklore, but calling that a JRPG is really pushing it... The game is more like TLoZ than Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest. 

Ah, okay. That's good news then. 

You're right though, if you don't count SRPG's then the PS3 might actually make it through 08 without any JRPG's. Very sad indeed.

@Rocket, I was gonna say I'm pretty sure Disgaea 3 was going to be released this year in the US :P And Valkyrie Chronicles is DONE... in Japan >_>;;; I thought White Knight Chronicles was also due sometime this year, and well if Namco gets there slow ass in gear with Trusty Bell :P We could have plenty of decent RPG's for 2008 :P

White Knight Chronicles is still pulling TBAs for 2008 & 2009 all over the place. I have to believe that if Sony was confident in a Japanese release in 2008, they would have announced something. PS3 sales in Japan are dismal and Sony needs any hype they can get at this point.

Very true, I just haven't been too current with news on PS3 RPG's xD I'm still drowning in quality from PS2 and PSP ;-;

It's not a fantastic amount, but given the cost of development and the difficult to harness cell-tech, I'd say it's doing fine considering the user base :P

I agree! We need more solid dates from Sony. The only dates we've gotten for JRPGs have come from third parties. (Disgaea in August, Valkyria in November)
