Not necessarily ...

Many people bought a PS2 for one (or a couple) of games that interested them. After people owned a PS2 they continued to buy "good" games because they were available for a platform that they already owned. There were probably a ton of people who owned a PS2 that would have bought Metroid Prime, Halo or Super Mario Sunshine if they were available for the PS2 but were unwilling to spend an additional $200/$300 to own the game system to play the game on it.

If Halo 3 was being released exclusively for the PS3 I'm certain Blue3 would be hyping it to no end ...

People who buy an XBox 360 for Halo 3 this year will be likely to pick up a copy of GTA 4, at the same time people who buy and XBox 360 for GTA 4 will also be likely to pick up a copy of Halo 3, and there will also be people who will buy an XBox 360 simply because both games are available for it.

This is precisely what I believe, largely because it is entirely and completely logical.

In terms of moving consoles this title will help to build the momentum of the 360 even further for this christmas period... Halo then GTAIV is a big hitting combo, and perhaps the biggest hitting combo for the entire market this year for that demographic.

The 16 - 25 y/o's are going to scoop up 360's at previously un-seen rates and the PS3 will get a pretty massive boost as well I believe... however this is the only release for PS3 that has large system selling potential. It will get a hardware boost for sure, but it hurts that it is multi-platform.

No one can say with any certainty they know what will happen in the long run... who knows who will have the largest base at the end and this but that will be the platform that sells the most copies of this game.

Isn't it interesting that a game we know hardly anything about, and NO one has played is already a gauranteed hit by name and developer alone?

Alright alright. The Wii will win over the Ethug with the murder similator Manhunt 2 which will come with the GTA 4 Wii beta and take 10 minutes on the Manhunt screen before getting to log into the beta.

Nah, people that think that are really blind fanboys. But in the future, a GTA "insert city name here" spinoff may be released, according to sales of both console and mature games.

Same as Smash, Galaxy, FFXIII and MGS4, and many other franchises...

Exactly. If this game was still in the nascent stages of development, maybe someone would be claiming this. As is, this game has probably gone gold already. The engine is clearly intended for the 360 and PS3. The end. Anyone saying this will be on the Wii at this point is ignoring mountains of evidence contrary to that claim. 

But I do agree a spinoff is possible, if not likely. A "Vice City Stories" type game. Or put differently: I expect some sort of GTA game to be on the Nintendo console this generation. I don't know what or when, but I think something from the series is likely. I'd give it a good 75 percent chance.

Regardless, I think the 360's got it, for the simple fact that, as Bod has stated, it's one of those 'e-thug' staple games. And I have a feeling that a lot of those people have bought into the X360 with titles like Crackdown and  Gears showing up on it. Sure, not the same exact gameplay... but anything that involves shooting people for good or no reason seems to draw in that crowd. It's been out longer, it's cheaper, and XBL gives people the opportunity to mouth off.
