2008 was claimed to be the year of the PS3, but with the recent announcement of Killzone 2 being pushed to 2009, it finally seems like the 360 will be able to compete with Fable 2, Gears of War 2, Banjo 3, Halo Wars, GTA 4 expansion etc. 

The majority of the big Sony exclusives have been pushed back to 2009, or were never going to be released this year. If I'm not missing anything, the PS3 has three big exclusives this year in Resistance 2, Metal Gear Solid 4 and Littlebigplanet.

Whilst these games are undoubtedly going to be great, I can't help but feel the PS3 has dissappointed this year especially with Home now being an uncertainty. 

I will wait for a few more posters before I properly enter this no doubt epic thread.

i dont think you can say one is better than the other, it's just down to preference.

STARCRAFT vs SDF

PS3 has a better overall list of games for 2008 combined including MGS 4, Little Big Planet, Tekken 6, Haze, Socom:Confrontation, Resistance 2, Gran Turismo 5: Prologue and GTA IV (360 also has GTA IV). But Gears of War 2 is the best HD exclusive game that will sell the most copies this year. MGS 4 will sell 5 million copies. But Gears of War 2 will sell over 7 million copies alone.

I think the lineups from Nin, Sony and MS all look "weak" at the moment... we need to wait a couple of months (e3 or after e3)

Nintendo = We don't know what they will do (perhaps kid icarus, animal crossing, pikmin... but we don't know for certain)

Sony = LBP is a new IP. Resistance 1 was not exactly huge. And most of the other anounced games are new IPs too.

MS = Fable & Banjo are big question marks... same with halo wars. Only Gears of Wars 2 is a given

Personally I don't understand one #%$% about Sony's strategy.

I'm not saying one line-up is better than the other, however the biggest Ps3 exclusive in 2008 is MGS which won't have any impact during the holliday season anymore.

Fans of Motorstorm and Resistance already have a PS3, so probably won't be a system seller.
Home is more like a service, I very much doubt how a social environment can sell a system. everyone has Facebook, MySpace, LinkedIn etc.

Although I really like the idea of LBP, I can't escape the idea that it's too soft for the current PS3 userbase and that not a lot of people will buy a $400,- console for it. Especially since the audience it's meant for will buy a Wii.


Why are the big games not there? Sony needs them. Of course they can't force 3rd parties, but where are the Sony games? PS3 doesn't exactly need to be beaten by 360 this holliday, but if Microsoft lowers the price, while PS3 will probably not, combined with some very good 360 games like Fable 2 and GTA expansion I can see Microsoft laughing really hard this holliday.
