I am pretty sure MS just jumped on the HD bandwagon to force Sony into a long, costly, drawn-out format war, while they could get busy making downloadable HD content a reality instead of a fantasy. Their support of the War not only cost Sony money, and completely killed any chance of HD movies having an adoption rate even close to DVDs (blu-ray is struggling STILL, even as I type this), all while MS is comes closer and closer to readying some sort of streaming, non-physical HD media, as opposed to the physical based media we have today. The future will most likely involve a move away from placing your disc in the tray AND hitting the play button, to just hitting play on your computer or a set-top box, with no trips to blockbuster/best buy, or 2-3 day waits for movies to come through the mail via Netflix.
