Right definately get Halo 3. But if you can pick up Halo and Halo 2, get them cheap as well. This trilogy is an absolute MUST. Then get Gears of War, Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon and Mass Effect. In that order. After that Forza 2, Dead Rising, PGR4, Bioshock and by the time you finish this lot you should be around to getting NG2.

After that lot he will be getting Gears 2 in November! :) The 360 library is already big and growing. I think everyone has pretty much nailed all the must-buys - BioShock, Gears, Mass Effect, Lost Odyssey, Halo 3 are my 360 exclusive favourites.

Obligatory dick measuring Gaming Laptop Specs: Sager NP8270-GTX: 17.3" FULL HD (1920X1080) LED Matte LC, nVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M, Intel Core i7-4700MQ, 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3, 750GB SATA II 3GB/s 7,200 RPM Hard Drive

Get Virtua Fighter 5. The low sales mean that the online community is pretty tiny, but the Quest Mode adds a lot of longevity to the game (even if you can defeat pro computers with the same move over and over), and the fighting is just amazing. The outfits and visuals are fantastic (Brad Burns is a badass), so the game is almost as fun to look at as play.

Reward Sega for one of the few good games they make.

People have recommended some decent games here, but Id suggest waiting for Eternal Sonata to be released on the PS3 as it's getting alot of extra's from what I've read.

My favourite games for the 360 have been gears and dead rising, so those are definates. Personally, I wouldnt recommend Blue Dragon OR Lost Odyssey, both were nothing special to me, and I was honestly hoping for LO to give me a real reason to buy a 360 but I wasnt impressed.

LO is the best JRPG since FF7 and is certainly far better than any FF after 7. It's abreath of fresh air after playing the mediocre FF series of late.

Add Orange Box to the list if you haven't already played Half Life 2.

It's almost worth it for Portal alone if you can find it cheap (and TF2 if you like online FPS), but not quite.

Rock_on_2008 mentioned it already (kudos to you), but I have to second the recommendation: Kameo.

It's a lovely game and the graphics and the atmosphere is fantastic. And you get it for so cheap.
