Forums - Gaming - Capcom, do the really have the right stuff anymore?

I guess I shouldn't expect any better from you DMesiterJ, but Onyxmeth, can we at least try avoid jumping to such brash conclusions?

I've given up on the RE5 for Wii petition, it would only complicate the game and would only sour the Wii's image to get a lesser selling port and questionable version of a game that's being sold entirely on graphics. That said I'm not against it simply because its not on the Wii.

And yes DmeisterJ, I am interested in RE5 and MGS4, however I have no interest in ever owning another Sony console so I can pass on MGS4 and while I'll gladly wait for a port of RE5 on Nintendo's next console, I have no expectations of it ever living up to RE4.

Having low expectations of a game =/= not wanting that game.

Your understanding of things is two dimensional as usual DmeisterJ. You're so eager to try and make a jab that you trip over your own shoes trying to do so.

Also, DMeister, Silent Hill is Konami, not Capcom, and for the record its been a franchise that's only been downhill since the second game.

I'm not sure why you all make such brash assumptions as to what my motives are in any of these. My point here is just that I'm dissapointed to see talent split and see reason for worry. If you don't agree, that's fine, but I feel there is at least some shred of creditibility to my worries and the purpose of this thread wasn't to create a following but rather incite discussion, which as I've already pointed out in my above reply, was flawed by my own making.

Any game worth playing is a game I can assume will be on a Nintendo console some day, so I can wait and please don't assume I'm trying to disown Capcom merely because these games are not going towards a Nitendo console as most of the games I love Capcom for were on the PS2 last generation.

And yes, the Onimusha games are a cliche genre and formula, but surprise surprise they're on a declining trend as well.

Though while I'm at it (since DMeisterJ brought it up), does anyone think there is any possibility of salvaging Konami's Silent Hill considering each game after Silent Hill 3 has only been more dissapointing for fans, reviewers and sales? I mean, don't get me wrong, I enjoyed 3 and 4, but after Silent Hill 2, the series has been in a tail spin with no sign of regaining its former glory.

I think Capcom should quit making games. Maybe they should move onto MegaMan action figures or something.

I'd follow the people who worked on Viewtiful Joe to the ends of the Earth. The company that fired them should die in the hell of the upside down sinners.

I appreciate your sarcasm Rubang, however its misplaced and a Johny-come-lately reply.

Capcom had no choice but to liquidate Clover after its chief talent left (apparently not satisfied with Capcom's vision of gaming I guess), so you can't really blame Capcom.

I also never said Capcom was doomed nor that their games now sucked, just that they may no longer have the talent to be what they once were. This of course is debateable, but you can get off the high horse as your response was a tad over kill and innapropriate.

I will still play what Capcom games I can, but you can't tell me losing the director of RE2, RE4, Viewtiful Joe, Okami, DMC and the Capcom staff who chose to leave with them is a casual matter.

I love Capcom and I love Clover (Platinum) but their talent was best when they worked as one, not seperately. As I've pointed out, Rare / Free Radical are another example of talent divided.

I don't think Capcom has lost it's stuff; so far they are the only non-Nintendo Japanese dev that seem to know what they're doing this generation. They've been making sales while Konami, Namco, SquareEnix still have their thumbs up their asses. They've always had their highs and lows, but they've been consistently delivering top games for two decades.

I do think that DMC4 is a half effort. The core gameplay is tops, but everything else reeks of laziness. Still the best hack and slash action game out this gen.

Dead Rising is still one of the standout games this generation, imo. Resident Evil 5 looks hot. It could very well equal or top RE4.

The news of a Bionic Commando remake (Rearmed) was one of the more exciting announcements this generation. When a "primitive" sidescroller is one of the most intriguing projects, maybe it's this generation that's lacking.

Clover only came into their own well into last generation. We're only 3 and 2 years into this one. Who knows what Capcom will come up with next year or the year after. They've produced major quality franchises every single console generation since the NES, and I see no reason why this will not continue.

Oh I didn't know Clover's chief talent left before they got liquidated. That does make a little sense then. I'd still rather have a new Viewtiful Joe over a new Street Fighter, MegaMan, or DMC... :(

no dead rising mention.....

And that's the only thing I need is *this*. I don't need this or this. Just this PS4... And this gaming PC. - The PS4 and the Gaming PC and that's all I need... And this Xbox 360. - The PS4, the Gaming PC, and the Xbox 360, and that's all I need... And these PS3's. - The PS4, and these PS3's, and the Gaming PC, and the Xbox 360... And this Nintendo DS. - The PS4, this Xbox 360, and the Gaming PC, and the PS3's, and that's all *I* need. And that's *all* I need too. I don't need one other thing, not one... I need this. - The Gaming PC and PS4, and Xbox 360, and thePS3's . Well what are you looking at? What do you think I'm some kind of a jerk or something! - And this. That's all I need.

Obligatory dick measuring Gaming Laptop Specs: Sager NP8270-GTX: 17.3" FULL HD (1920X1080) LED Matte LC, nVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M, Intel Core i7-4700MQ, 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3, 750GB SATA II 3GB/s 7,200 RPM Hard Drive

Well we'll probably never see the last instalment of the Viewtiful Joe trilogy.

They only made it as far as Viewtiful Joe 2 in the main story, Red Hot Rumble was a fighting game and Double Trouble was a spin-off.

I'll honestly miss the work their talent did in Capcom's games like Devil May Cry and Resident Evil mostly.

Either way, I won't get a chance to play any of these games as the Wii isn't and won't be getting any serious Capcom Support this generation. And No two ports and two low budget titles don't count as serious support. Monster Hunter is nice beyond those, but as its really only a big deal in Japan and far more noteable a franchise for portable gaming than home consoles so you'll forgive me if I'm just not too terribly overwhelmed by its addition to the Wii library.

Square-Enix is the only developer really giving the Wii any serious support like it or not. Sega is a close second but make no mistake their big budget mature titles aren't going to the Wii and even they can't help but try their hand at putting Sonic on the HD consoles once more. Capcom has only given enough support to the Wii to avoid burning any bridges, trust me, if Monster Hunter wasn't a Japanese dependent franchise, it would have never been put on the Wii.

You think Square-Enix is supporting the Wii more than Capcom? Square released one half assed Dragon Quest spinoff based off of the kind of cheap plastic motion toy games you get at kiosks in a mall. They have one Wii-Ware game of good quality just released. They have what will most likely be another below to above average Chocobo's Dungeon coming soon. Oh and some Crystal Chronicles title that we haven't seen any media from since E3 2006. Yup...great support.

Capcom ported us two gems fom last generation, gave us an above average RE spinoff light shooter, a very original puzzler adventure, has what looks to be a winner golf game coming soon, a whatever ripoff of Phoenix Wright point and click adventuring, and is bringing the biggest sensation in Japan right now over to the Wii exclusively. Oh and there are two Japan only releases that could possibly be brought stateside. Oh and Capcom brought 8 titles over to the Virtual Console while Square, whom everyone has begged, has not done crap with the service.

I hope there is no truth in these speculations, because RE5 is my most wanted game for 2008.

And yes, the thread maker forgot to mention that Dead Rising is awesome.
