Forums - Gaming - Capcom, do the really have the right stuff anymore?

I have actually played through most of DMC4 on a friend's 360. This is the only place I really find people defending the game. I'm not saying you're wrong to like it, it's not a terrible game, but it would seem Good Graphics really do carry a game far these days in the opinion of gamers. Though if DMC4 is everyone's ideal of satisfaction then I think there's no reason to think anyother title they put out will in anyway dissapoint and my comments here should just be ignored.

The director and team behind RE4 is not there for RE5. And if by graphics you mean it will be better than RE4, then you're probably right but don't kid yourself much else is known about the game. Very little about gameplay and story progression other than a few trumped quirks in survival are touched upon in what is known about the series. It's not the same director, not the same team. Does that mean bad? No. But since RE4 is unlike any RE game previous, its a fair bet that it was because of the people on it that it was what it was much like DMC3 was the product of its team. I'm not saying it will be bad, just that I'm worried about it.

@Mr. STickball - Capcom said that it would be a team assembled of people from the earlier games working on RE5 and that fans should expect a feel reminicent of RE1 way back when there was just a demo trailer of this out.

There are two topics that never fail.

1.Wii users bashing great next-gen games because they have pretty graphics. They usually say the playability (that they havent even tried ) is dissapointing. If pushed to recognize they havent even played it they say they have tried it off at some (imaginary ) friends X360(not PS3 of course,we all know nobody has that console!).But their old graphics and playability Wii games are very cool we are told.Oh my.

2.Sony haters that dont like FFVII-FFXII and argue Kefka (the green sprite that laughs all the time and comes into scene jumping)is the biggest baddass ever.

Capcom are by far the best and most consistent Japanese developer, what the hell is the point of this thread?

From gamerankings
DMC3: 84.1%
DMC4 PS3 84.1%
DMC4 360 83.7%
Dead rising 85%
Lost Planet 78.8%
Z+W 86%
RE:UC 76%
GodHand 75%
Viewtiful Joe 91.7%

Yes you're right. Clearly the quality has dropped and this is a well researched thread and not just you trying to pass off your opinion as fact.

Oh wait actually DMC 4 performed exactly the same as 3. Then all the other reviews are basically in range of each other. VJ is top but God hand is bottom.

Turkish says and I'm allowed to quote that: Uncharted 3 and God Of War 3 look better than Unreal Engine 4 games will or the tech demo does. Also the Naughty Dog PS3 ENGINE PLAYS better than the UE4 ENGINE.

were only a bit more than 2 years into the generation and capcom has put out a handful of good games. They were a lot more consistent when the only system they really focused on was the ps2 with a little bit of love for the cube

I see this post is reflective of your typical forum behavior as indicated by your negative VGchartz funds.

@ Kyros: You didn't even mention Viewtiful Joe! Sure, diss on Okami... Seriously, go take a long walk off a short plank over a ten-story drop to the pavement below.

Forgive me is I scoff at anyone who relies on game reviews anymore than they would a dowsing rod. Also, any system of measure that puts DMC4 and DMC3 on the same playing field (much ales the 360 and PS3 versions of DMC4 at two different scores when they're for all intensive purposes identical) is a system to held suspect of innacuracy. All it takes is one extremely bad review to sully an average and just a handful of reviews who played the game for only a couple hours to give a game a good review before actually finishing the game. In an industry when, "who can get the first review out fastest" is the name of the game, can you really trust any of them? Oh but the temptation to cling to something quantifiable to too great for gamers and we so eagerly abandon our sensibilities in favor of the illusion of objectivity such as game reviews.

Though if you seriously need a system to reafirm your opinion (or for that matter, make one for you) then I can  hold your views in no higher contempt. While the review system has always been questionable, this generation (where reviewers seem to have fully embraced the spike-tv demographic in their ideology) is perhaps the most abhorant when it comes to reviews, though don't take my word for it, just wait for the 13/10s when MGS4 comes out to trump the 11/10 given to GTAIV.

Whether Capcom is lesser now than they were before, it's all opinion and who am I to say mine is any more valid. I would have liked a more interesting discussion, but like any fool I've clung too tightly to my own views while others did the same and true to any gaming forum, aggression, not consideration, was the contesxt of choice displayed here. Though I do have to wonder if there is any game people would not defend tooth and claw here? I feel like I'm in Kindergarten sometimes where the philosophy is, "there no such thing as a bad game children, just games that are less awesome than others". But I'm being bitter again, I digress.

Let's just say I'm very dissapointed to see the director of Resident Evil 2, Devil May Cry 1-3, Viewtiful Joe, Resident Evil 4 and Okami gone from a staff that complimented them so well. Now this talent has been split and no matter how genius the people in either resulting faction are we need look no further than the modern incarnation of Rare and Free Radical to see how two relatively well-to-do developers were once part of a much, much, much greater whole.

Your argument falls apart when you use as your examples all games created towards the middle and end of last generation's life cycles in comparison to the first two-three years of this life cycle. Many developers reach greater heights as they get more familiar with the hardware. Why not compare this Capcom of DMC4, Dead Rising, Lost Planet, RE5(which you are prematurely judging), Zack and Wiki, etc. to the numerous rushed arcade ports for the Dreamcast,  throwbacks Resident Evil with tank controls when they should have rehauled the series(RE Code Veronia, RE Remake + RE Zero), Street Fighter EX3, Devil May Cry, and the also not quite AAA material, your namesake Onimusha, which was just a new paintjob on an already old gameplay formula.

Capcom has not failed us even one generation yet, and Clover has been a non factor through most of it. Given the stellar track record through the years I don't see how anyone can doubt them even now.

Your whole argument does smell like bias. You were asking for RE5 for the Wii in a petition a month ago and now you're basically writing it off since it's not coming. You got overly angry about the Okami port in multiple topics which explains where this whole topic is coming from in the first place and really can't be held against Capcom, because the original Okami is still intact, the same way you wouldn't judge RE4 by the subpar porting to the PC, but to the stellar game on the GC, ps2 and Wii.

I'm so confused...

You post that you're interested in RE5

Games like MGS4 and RE5 I actually find interest in.

Linky

And you make a thread about RE5 for Wii petition but then you make this thread.

But I see what you've done:

It doesn't look like Capcom will be putting some of the hotly anticipated titles for PS360 on the Wii.  The Wii didn't get DMC4, and it's not getting Silent Hill or RE5, so I guess you're trying to disown Capcom, and trying to convince other Wii owners to do that as well, so when these games come out, and are good, you can talk trash, and hate on those games because they're not on your platform of choice...  It makes sense, your hate of Okami for it's lack of credits, I mean, it's a cutscene and credits cut from the game, and you acted as if the game was broken...  And lets not talk about your DMC4 hate.  It's all setting yourself up for the onslaught of good games (RE5, Silent Hill 5) coming to the PS360 that don't show any sign of coming to the Wii.

In any case, Capcom really does still have the right stuff, and by the responses of the thread, everyone agrees that that is the case, and that you are incorrect.  You should be happy though, don't hate on Capcom.  Wii owners get Monster Hunter 3... If it's anything like the other ones, it's an exceptionally good game that you will enjoy for a long time to come.  Don't spread Capcom hate for no reason.
