Yes you're right. Clearly the quality has dropped and this is a well researched thread and not just you trying to pass off your opinion as fact.
Oh wait actually DMC 4 performed exactly the same as 3. Then all the other reviews are basically in range of each other. VJ is top but God hand is bottom. |
Forgive me is I scoff at anyone who relies on game reviews anymore than they would a dowsing rod. Also, any system of measure that puts DMC4 and DMC3 on the same playing field (much ales the 360 and PS3 versions of DMC4 at two different scores when they're for all intensive purposes identical) is a system to held suspect of innacuracy. All it takes is one extremely bad review to sully an average and just a handful of reviews who played the game for only a couple hours to give a game a good review before actually finishing the game. In an industry when, "who can get the first review out fastest" is the name of the game, can you really trust any of them? Oh but the temptation to cling to something quantifiable to too great for gamers and we so eagerly abandon our sensibilities in favor of the illusion of objectivity such as game reviews.
Though if you seriously need a system to reafirm your opinion (or for that matter, make one for you) then I can hold your views in no higher contempt. While the review system has always been questionable, this generation (where reviewers seem to have fully embraced the spike-tv demographic in their ideology) is perhaps the most abhorant when it comes to reviews, though don't take my word for it, just wait for the 13/10s when MGS4 comes out to trump the 11/10 given to GTAIV.
Whether Capcom is lesser now than they were before, it's all opinion and who am I to say mine is any more valid. I would have liked a more interesting discussion, but like any fool I've clung too tightly to my own views while others did the same and true to any gaming forum, aggression, not consideration, was the contesxt of choice displayed here. Though I do have to wonder if there is any game people would not defend tooth and claw here? I feel like I'm in Kindergarten sometimes where the philosophy is, "there no such thing as a bad game children, just games that are less awesome than others". But I'm being bitter again, I digress.
Let's just say I'm very dissapointed to see the director of Resident Evil 2, Devil May Cry 1-3, Viewtiful Joe, Resident Evil 4 and Okami gone from a staff that complimented them so well. Now this talent has been split and no matter how genius the people in either resulting faction are we need look no further than the modern incarnation of Rare and Free Radical to see how two relatively well-to-do developers were once part of a much, much, much greater whole.
