Forums - Nintendo - according to Nintendo, majority of gamers dont need a hard drive...

http://www.nintendic.com/news/2402

Speaking to Official Nintendo Magazine at a WiiWare event at the company’s German headquarters, Laurent Fischer explained:

“At the moment, we of course know that some people are strug… well, it’s not that they’re struggling, it’s just that they don’t like the system as it’s set up at the moment. But at the end of the day, the system is manageable.”

He continued:

“I realise that some people would like to store everything in one place, for easy accessibility, which is understandable. For them, it would be more convenient to have more space. But having said that, I don’t think that’s the general feeling of most of the people.

“Most of the people are happy with what they have. Of course, we could increase our technology and add a hard drive, but then what we lose is simplicity and accessibility, which is one of the important things for us. We want our consoles to be easy to access and not cause headaches.”

How hard would it be to offer a hard drive to those who want one, Nintendo? Sigh.

end of core gaming days prediction:

E3 2006-The beginning of the end. Wii introduced

E3 2008- Armageddon. Wii motion plus introduced. Wii Music. Reggie says Animal crossing was a core game. Massive disappointment. many Wii core gamers selling their Wii.

E3 2010- Tape runs out

Apparently, Wii owners are so stupid that adding a hard drive that can store data makes the system too complicated for us.

Come on Nintendo, we're not Mac owners. Nintendo can't grasp the concept that a hard drive equals more digital content sold.

well i dont need one,(dont have wifi)
but i know many people really need one

What about the core and hardcore users?

For christ's sake Ninty, casuals won't want to buy 500 games. Hardcores will, and they need it. Casuals won't NEED to buy it.

Really stupid.

if casuals buy a ton of VC and WiiWare titles they will. Casual gamers might want to catch up on titles they missed.

It's actually a fact, the majority of Wii owners don't need a harddrive, and will never download enough crap to fill up the space already on their Wii's to begin with.

Do any of you really believe that's not true?

As for dtwei, Nintendo is working on a solution, or so they say, calling Nintendo stupid? Honestly, I don't see how you came to that conclusion. I for one don't think your argument holds water, and on top of that, what are we supposed to think about you when you call Nintendo's marketing and PR "stupid" but defend Sony's or Microsoft's? Aren't they really the "stupid" ones from a business perspective, if anyone is?

The decision to lower the storage in the Wii is obviously to keep the cost of the console down. I think that worked pretty well.

And when 75 percent of the Wii userbase has absolutly no need for any additional space, and when Nintendo says that in a Press Release, right alongside the other thing they say, which is "We're working on it for the other 25 percent though, just to keep them happy," I don't see where you get "stupid" from.

Sounds like the average internet argument that had about 10 seconds of thought put into it, which resulted in a really offensive, generic, and ironic post.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

Uh, why are we quoting some random German PR rep as the majority opinion of Nintendo? Iwata already said that although it was a minority issue, Nintendo is making a solution for the storage. End of discussion.

I forgot he said that. Normally, even though I dont own a Wii anymore, I stay pretty on top of news for all consoles. I guess I have to though as this site's PR Manager. lol

When have I defended Sony and Microsoft? Their PR is arrogant trash talk.

But a hard drive is necessary to some consumers, and Ninty is telling them to fuck off, which is a bastard move.

If the 25% is true, then 8 million need a hard drive. Saying that they don't need it could lead to less interest which could generate bad sales. Ninty ignoring that is stupid.
