The new Ghostbusters and Force Unleashed are official stories to add on to their respective series, they're more thought out story wise, Force Unleashed will become a bridge for Episode 3 and 4, while the Ghostbusters game is supposed to continue the story after 2. So pretty much both are like a movie but made into video game form and my thought is what if Holloywood starts to like that idea and run with it. You start to combine both forms of media where video games start to have big stars work on the video game and have huge budgets, and comebine that with it being just a video game and not a movie that has a game made about it and you won't have the shoddy movie based video games.
Also combining the two will open new possibilities, as in the case of Ghostbusters not all the actors are in shape to do a movie (Fat Egon ftl) so in fact combining both forms of media you won't have to do stunts and/or have the actors lose weight for a role, you simply make the 3D models how you want them to look.
I think this is a great idea as we will have better video games to play that are based on movies because these video games are in place of the movie itself and will not have unrealistic deadlines like they give dev teams for normal movie games that launch with the movie. The other big advantage is having old movies that might not have been made could make a come back and in turn the story/acting talent for video games would become much better then efforts in the past. When you have the game being the main focus everyone wins.
