Let the answer come by itself.

But Wii Sports, Warioware, Mario Kart, and Brawl are much better examples of social games than a 1-player exercise board.

Right. That's not really the point though. Getting an adult to even play video games is a challenge. Do you really think there's not much barrier to getting people to even trying out video games? There really is a barrier and Nintendo is trying to tear that wall down.

Wait, what? How does Wii Fit help social gaming?

Wii Fit brings the rest of the family to the Wii. You know, Wii is for EveryOne. See how that works?

Indeed.  Except you cut off my quote where I ask:  "You mean families?"  I don't see Wii Fit as a social game, though.  No one likes watching other people do exercise...except Tabsina's family.

Then you probably don't know there are more than just exercises in wii fit.. i was referring to the gaming part of wii fit

I agree with you.  I'm all for tearing down that barrier.  I think the games I mentioned above, as well as Rock Band and DDR have done that with a younger demographic that didn't already play videogames.

Will Wii Fit get older people to play more?  Sure.  But it's still not as much of a social game as the ones previously mentioned.  I also don't think that older people that buy the game will suddenly start playing a lot of other games.

It's the same with those other games.  Casual gamers will play those and love them (also Mario Party), but it's not like they will then start playing No More Heroes.

There's no denying that Wii Fit is already successful, but it's no more a revolution for social gaming than Rock Band is.

I don't think many people like to watch other people play.  That's not very social.  Playing at the same time is a far greater social event.

I want to agree so bad. It makes so much sense on paper. I really want it to succeed that well, and I'm in love with the board's potential, but it already hurts me so bad to know how horribly that potential will be wasted. We're gonna have the amazing glorious Wii Fit, and then shovelware like We Ski or whatever it's called, and then maybe nothing else. It'll have the game support of the Power Glove, if the Power Glove came bundled with the best game ever.

(FYI, only 2 games were made specifically with the Power Glove in mind. 2 more were planned but cancelled when all support for it vanished. Super Glove Ball is fucking incredible, and should really be remade for the Wii remote. Think 3-D Arkanoid with depth, like Elebits style. The other game was Bad Street Brawler. Seanbaby's review of it will tell you everything you need to know: http://www.seanbaby.com/nes/w20-07.htm )

The same thing will happen with the balance board. We'll have Wii Fit, thankfully fucking bundled with the thing. And we'll have We Ski, a full game of one of the games in Wii Fit.

Also, Rol's right about MP3: Corruption. It was one of the ONLY TWO innovations of FPS controls this gen. The other one was MP: Hunters on the DS.

OMG! There's so much wrong with this post!

First of all the, uh... the Power Glove? They should have bundled the NES Advantage and called it a day. The Power Glove was basically the pre-cursor to the Virtual Boy. Don't get me started.

The same thing will happen with the Balance Board? If I didn't know your lanky ass wouldn't be back here using a new account haunting me anyways I'd be calling for a ban bet. There's going to be more than enough interest in the Balance Board after Nibris comes out with "Drinking Training: Walking the Straight Line at the Checkpoint".

Mentioning that crazy Australian to try and bolster your weak argument is pretty typical of you. I should have seen that one coming. It must be something in the water. Fortunately for you our new Nintendo Overlords are kind. If you repent they will welcome you back.

Well I think the Virtual Boy had more potential than the Power Glove, but was an even bigger flop.  They were both horribly sad events in gaming history.  I have both and LOVE them.

I'll let you dis the Virtual Boy because I doubt you understand it.  I'm sure it hurt what's left of your eyes.

But you can't dis the Power Glove.  Have you played Super Glove Ball?  It's made by Rare back when they were G-DS.  I found 4 minutes of gameplay footage on YubeTube.  You're playing Breakout/Arkanoid/whatever on 5 walls, moving in 3 dimensions WII REMOTE STYLE, and using multiple balls at once.  This was in 1990.  It's really fucking incredible.  In fact, owning Super Glove Ball and a Power Glove is what really helped me believe in the Wii.  A remake would be great.

But whoever makes a drinking training game is getting every cent I have.

The Australian angle was another argument, just about FPS controls, which nobody but Nintendo has bothered to update since Quake in 1996.

Can you two stop this Australian nonsense, please? I am from Austria, not Australia. The difference between these peoples is that Austrians are actually good in Mario Kart Wii.

Ok, but it's only an innovation for consoles.  Mouse/keyboard is still better, and now that those are supported on consoles, finally, mouse/keyboard is the best choice for FPS.

dual-analog was the same kind of evolution.  That started with Turok, I believe...around there...and it was an optional control scheme to classic stuff, like Goldeneye.

All you have is a less accurate pointing device than a mouse.  That's the only difference that the Wiimote provides.  Now, the stylus might be more accurate.  I haven't used it for FPS.  The DS is such a bad platform for FPS, though.

I'm all for console FPS games catching up to their PC equivalents, but the Wiimote is just a small step in the right direction.
