Forums - Sony - Finally, a cheap Blu-ray player is here ( ok well in a couple of weeks)

The PS3 is still the best deal for a blu-ray player. The PS3 will also play divx and xvid files and is Profile 2.0. It also has 40 or 80gb of space. I'd say those features are worth $100.

For me the price of a BD player is unimportant

It is the price of each movie that bothers me

just get a PS3, it has blu-ray which is allways up to date, and u can play games on it.

wake me up when there is a $99 blue ray player, as of right now I don't a two cent about blue ray and its higher price tag on movie, and I own not 1 but 2 HDTV. One is a 50' Plasma and the other one is 40' LCD, and dvd look fine on both.

Assuming what you say is true, have you ever watched a BD on one of them? You can notice the difference. Although I can't prove this happened, just take my word for it: One time when I was watching a BD, an older friend of mine (she's like 70 and doesn't care a whit about tech stuff) came over and her immediate reaction to the movie was, and I quote "Wow. That picture is really clear." And she said that before I said anything about BD or HD or whatever.

Just try BD on a big screen...juussst once....

Not trying to be a fanboy. Of course, it's hard when you own the best console eve... dang it

Price doesn't seem that bad, my first betamax was $500, VHS and DVD $400.  A PS3 is still a better value though,

I don't it will have a big impact on the market until they reach $200.

please understand what I type before even try to flame.  its no doubt that the blue ray quality is nice but the minor enhance in quality does not justify my spending on the extra cost for each movie, and yes I did tried a blue ray movie on my TVs it looked nice(borrowed my cousin's PS3).  its all about the price tag, not the picture quality! if you willing to spend the extra for a minor upgrade then more power to you.

well that is still way too expensive for the upgrade provided ^^
I think i'll wait for Gama beam or whatever they come up with next time.
