No, I really doubt there will ever be a way to change to her at will past the use of an action replay. I really don't understand why people are shocked about this, the trailer showed it pretty clearly. As far as items go, part of the skill of the game is using items properly and being able to dodge your opponents' items, but you could always turn off all items except Smash Logos.  I've never understood people who play without items anyway.  This is a brawler, not Street Fighter.  The items are there because they add a lot to the experience (though I admit I tend to turn some items off)l

You may be able to select Zero Suit Samus from the character screen by hitting a button on Samus's picture, just like you could do with Shiek in SSBM.  I'd actually say this is most likely possible for those who wish to play as her.  Still, I'm not understanding while people are so upset.

that is crazy... as if care that much

That link is scary... there are people saying Sakurai should die and they are boycotting the game. Wow... that's really just sad.

As someone pointed out on that thread though: Zero Suit Samus is a handicap for Samus after using her attack. She is a weaker character that you have to play as as your punishment for nuking the level.

Oh whoh. That's some serious NERD RAGE going on there. I do agree, however, that only being able to play Zero Suit Samus with an item is a bit dumb. Hopefully there'll be other ways to do it.

Wow, those people are pissed!

That's just scary...

I mainly play as Samus in SSBM. I'd probably play as regular Samus in Brawl too...so having this cool item to see Samus out of the suit is a nice touch...that's all I need though...I don't need to play as Zero Suit Samus for the whole round...

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

Maybe when players see that Zero Suit Samus is just a weaker version of her former self...they won't be as pissed that they can't be her the whole round...

I don't understand the problem. I mean Zero Suit Samus is STILL Samus. It makes sense to have them stem from the same person. It's more coherent. It also shows a little more creativity from the creators part. I like having gameplay unlockables. Why waste a character slot on a "version" of a character. I guess Samus from Brawl is going to be the Zelda/Sheik from Melee

Well for Zelda/Sheik, you can change back and forth with the press of a button...so it wasn't a problem for players that wanted to play as one or the other exclusively, or switch at strategic times...

So I can understand why some fans might be mad...they wanted to play as Zero Suit Samus all the time, or maybe be able to switch when it best benefits them, ala Zelda/Sheik. With this system...you fight as regular Samus until you pick up a Smash Ball...which turns you into Zero Suit Samus until you die. Then you're regular Samus again until you pick up another Smash Ball. Unless Smash Balls are frequent, you won't be playing as Zero Suit Samus that much.

I kinda like it that way actually...you'll only see Zero Suit Samus once in a while, it'll be cool when you do.

You guys can't just say "you play the game wrong" because someone likes to play without items. Smash has a ton of depth as a "serious" fighting game with items off. Personally, I play with items more often than not, but I also like to have big 1 on 1 stock battles with no items.

The speculation was for a long time that Zamus was the replacement for Sheik. I hope now that isn't the case. I hope Zamus has basically all the same moves as Samus, except very weak, plus different specials. If that were the case, I'd just be bummed that Sheik isn't in the game.

The one reason its sort of cool is because suitless Samus was always a prize in the various Metroid games. It would have been kind of dumb to have her in there as a basic starting character/transformation. Now she will only be seen occasionally.

"[Our former customers] are unable to find software which they WANT to play."
"The way to solve this problem lies in how to communicate what kind of games [they CAN play]."

Satoru Iwata, Nintendo President. Only slightly paraphrased.

I agree.

Although for the items argument...it's fine to play with items on or off...both ways are correct...

But I'm surprised that so many players are pissed that they can't see Zero Suit Samus without items on. You guys that play without items realize you're missing a lot of the fun? You're missing Zero Suit Samus, yeah, but you're also missing crazy explosions, lots of dodging lasers, avoiding Pokemon, etc.

To item-less players: You've always been missing a lot more than Zero Suit Samus, a weaker version of the same character...so I don't see the big complaint. I guess they just wanted the free "fan service" o.0

I completely agree.  It's like this ONE thing passing up people who don't play with items bothers them NOW?  What are they complaining about... it's their choice to play without items, this is something for those of us who do.  I'm not saying it's the wrong way to play, but don't complain about not getting 1 part of the game, when you have been missing giant chunks of the game since SSB on N64.   Of course if you play without items you are gonna miss out on some things, and you should have been expecting that.

There is still a good chance anyway that you can select ZSS from the character select screen by holding a button and play has her alone.  I'm not sure you get the suit back when you die either Ben, it may be a permanent change after using the Final Smash.

Anyway, I just think it's pretty scary that all these "hadcore" smash players are acting like Sakurai just murdered their families...
