they could implement button combinations. 1 + 2 could be the special attack, or block for that matter

Either way...sounds like I'll be wanting to use the GC, Classic, or Wiimote/nunchuck

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

What you have to remember is that smash bros only needs three buttons to play. "A" is the regular attacks, any direction and "B" is the special attacks and then you need a button to block "C" cause if you play Smash Bros. Melee you will find that you can jump with the up on the D-pad. On the Wiimote sideways (cause that's the fewest buttons) you have the "1" "2" "A" and "B" buttons more than enought to play smash bros. (Unless Final Smashes are a button by themselves.

The Wii remote turned sideways and held like a regular controller only has two buttons that are realistically useable though, the 1 and 2 buttons. You're not going to hit A, B, +, -, or Home routinely when holding the Wii remote on it's side. If the bare minimum button map would require 3 buttons, then the Wii remote turned sideways will probably require one of the button presses mapped as a waggle motion, such as 1: Attack, 2: Sp Attack, Swing Wiimote downward: Block.

Ok, I can understand not being able to hit the "A" button but you can't hit the "B" on the back of the controller when you hold it to the side? Think about it you have four fingers hanging back there.

Excellent, all my complaining and nagging about only have gamecube/classic option seems to have paid off (even though it would have nothing to do with the final decision), i'm glad they have given a choice, 'the best choice is more choice' is the saying

That's right. Truthfully the good thing is the fact that if you don't like the way that one control style works you have three more completely different ones to try out and will get a lot of people playing.

My guess is that the dpad will handle moving left to right and crouching, while 1 and 2 would be equivalent to the A and B on the GC pad, and the shield would probably be used with the wiimote's A or B. Probably B, because using A would seriously hamper movement, and definitely make wavedashing nearly impossible if they decide to include it. Jumping would probably be handled by throwing the controller up, and running might require tapping the side arrows twice, like in Guilty Gear.

The more I think of it, the better it sounds actually.

Maybe I'm dumb but what is Wavedashing?

It's explained earlier in this thread.

Honestly, I don't care if some type of wavedashing is in the game or not...it's not important to me. It is kinda cool that there were so many helpful "glitches" in the last game, but it's not essential to have fun or be competitive.

Expect lot's of cries about "snaking"  like technique if this goes online.
