That's not a crappy argument, that's true. If you play for fun keep the items, if you really want to know who's better play without. I'm not a pro, but I know there are items that will throw you off regardless of skill.
Some examples- A pokeball falls, the person with better skill gets the ball first. Pokemon attacks and a random star falls on the sucky player preventing the attack from doing damage. (Also all those other random falling items that can give and take advantages without giving you a chance).
Also don't tell me you've never been backsided by an offscreen bomb-omb.
I nab a pokeball before my opponent, it's a goldeen....
Big stages definitely have effects with items. If your far away from your opponent and hearts fall next to you, is it the opponents fault in skill that he wasn't next to those recovery items or any other advantage item for that matter.
Items are random, so players will definitely not always get the same amount of good items.
I'm with that argument that if you want to play for skill you do it without outside interuptions with things like weapons, but by no way in hell am I against having them. I love the items, I'm just stating the argument for skills sake. I'm also for this argument because I would actually play 2 of my friends almost everyday in the original sb and we never used items. Everything about my game was better because of it. Whenever we played ANYONE else, we creamed them so bad.
