Absolutely not.

I could believe total sales outselling the PS3 in a single territory like others or NA perhaps (though still an insanely long shot) but not total.

oh!  Christmas 2009-- missed that part.  Not a chance in Hell even if we're just asking about territories.

Why? The hardware, I don't think that out of the 60M (est.) or so wiis sold by christmas 2009 there would be enough people who would invest in a wii board. But hey that's just me.

Wii Sports is and always has been above PS3. (except for the couple of weeks at the very begining as PS3 launched 1st)

What about Wii Play.... although that I think has recently been passed by the PS3 so I doubt it will reverse.

Wii play is just barely behind the PS3 in terms of world wide sales. Wii play is an easy attach for the controller, but it is not a system seller. I expect Wii Fit sales to exceed that of Wii play. (Not really to hard core gamers, but that is not it's focus audience, but there is some overlap).

Wii fit on the other hand is a system seller. In NA, people not otherwise interested in video games will get a wii just for wii fit.

 

If you only look at NA, then Wii Play is already > PS3.

Worldwide, by the end of 09, I don't think it has a shot. Wii fit sales worlwide outselling PS3's in the US/Europe, probably quite likely.

Wii Fit will only outsell the PS3 in Japan.

2009.04.30 - PS3 will OUTSELL x360 atleast by the middle of 2010. Japan+Europe > NA.


Gran Turismo 3 - 1,06 mln. in 3 weeks with around 4 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Gran Turismo 4 - 1,16 mln. with 18 mln. PS2 on the launch.

Final Fantasy X - around 2 mln. with 5 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Final Fantasy X-2 - 2.4 mln. with 12 mln. PS2 on the launch.

 

1.8 mln. PS3 today(2008.01.17) in Japan. Now(2009.04.30) 3.16 mln. PS3 were sold in Japan.
PS3 will reach 4 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 25k.

PS3 may reach 5 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 50k.
PS2 2001 vs PS3 2008 sales numbers =) + New games released in Japan by 2009 that passed 100k so far

its close to passing the PS3 sales in japan, but i doubt it will pass NA,others, and japan al together
