Forums - Sales Discussion - The Official NPD April 2008 Thread

The crazy thing is that it is exactly what Sean Malstrom has predicted (even the people reaction that gaming is doomed).

How many cups of darkness have I drank over the years? Even I don't know...

Wow VGC got owned by this month's NPD sales.

I've said it before, that this site never allocates trends of month by month sales. Meaning in certain months software sales DIE. Such as spring and summer months.

That's apparent by these numbers of course.

Well I'm confused.

Should I believe the VGC numbers that adjust their numbers clearly and make far more sense and not believe the NPD numbers that we don't know how they adjust and make less sense? Or should I believe the NPD numbers that are historically more accurate and have a far larger sample base?

Bleh. I think I'll wait for shipment figures to give a clearer indication of who is correct.

That is VGChartz LONGEST review. And it's NOT Cute Kitten DS

NPD data this month goes against all logic. As an owner of Nintendo stock I am very happy though.

So I'm logging on to check the NPD numbers and a funny thing happens. I get an email from a buddy who is freaking out because he says NPD must have fudged up big time. He didn't go into details and since he's a Nintendo fan I assumed he thought NPD undertracked Wii by a huge margin.

I get here and lo and behold there is an undertrack.......just not the Wii.

I've scratched my head, my nose and finally my butt (it was itchy, ok?) and can't come up with a logical reason why NPD's X360/PS3 numbers are so flaccid.

The Nintendo fan in me let out a laugh that would make the Joker proud but the market watcher on the outside made a face that I can only assume appears similar to surprise anal.

If I borrowed Doc Browns Flux Capacitor to go back in time and kick my father in the junk 9 months prior to my birth, then simultaneously crossed the streams while duel-wielding Venkman and Egon's proton packs...it might generate enough warpage in the space time-continuum so a few PS3/X360 fanboys could truthfully say, "Good thing that never happened."

The rEVOLution is not being televised

Even without following VGChartz numbers, I have a hard time believing the 360 and PS3 sold that low. As the Wii and DS have shown, this being the slow time of year doesn't mean consoles sales have to be low. There really isn't any logic I can apply to the situation to make me believe the console sales dropped or stalled compared to last month(weekly basis). What could be the biggest selling game this gen should have given some sort of boost to the PS3 and 360's hardware in anticipation of it's release, much less with the game being out a few days at the end of the period.

Anyways, I'm glad to see the Wii and DS soaring through the clouds. It looks like Wii Fit may be the crippling blow to settle who wears this gen's crown.

Huge variances between NPD and VGChartz. ioi might have to do some adjustments.
