@Deviation59

well, y'know Nintendo fans were probably bitter about losing to PS for two generations. It makes sense that Sony fans would be bitter once PS lost the mantel. Personally I'm not yet bitter, I already came to terms with the idea that my favorite console wouldn't win out, I'm just hoping that my PS3 still keeps some good support and I good some great games.

Personally, I'm not bitter that the Wii is winning on a hardware front. I'm bitter that the previously popular types of games that I love have absolutely zero traction on that platform whatsoever and that for many reasons beyond just graphics, those games won't end up on the Wii because they don't fit into that market.

I like Nintento and the Wii, but it's getting out of hand now.

Personally I find comfort in the fact that the X360 seems to have been less over-tracked than the PS3 on VGC.

And now the 10 million console target for FY 2008 by Sony makes sense all of a sudden. Although it also seems difficult for the X360 to reach 10 million this year.

Btw, I wonder how the months Jan-March were, NPD compared to VGC.

I like these numbers. I'm reading the past 7 pages and catching up with some whiskey right now. How's everybody doing tonight?

Oh, and maximum lulz at everybody who didn't see this coming. I hope John Lucas triumphantly rides into this thread on a white horse with a white cloak and a white pimpstaff all Gandalf style, just to say "Believe."

Hurray a new page!

Ok my thoughts after looking at the numbers.

Assuming the software figures BKK2 posted were USA only, most of the software looks pretty close to VGC. Though SSB has quite a difference.

The oddities come with PS3/360 hardware, which have oddly done worse than last month despite GTA.
Similarly DS seems to have dropped a lot for no reason but I haven't looked into it properly yet.

PSP and PS2 don't look too bad and Wii is very close.

---

I am inclined once more to go with VGC as I cannot believe PS3/360 hardware went down (weekly average)
Perhaps they are meant to be 287 and 288?

Which types of games are those?

Oh, and don't worry about third party support on the Wii anymore. Every third party in the world just saw these numbers, and as soon as they can reinstall their jaws they will be announcing some stellar AAA games that'll make your head spin faster than Sony's PR department. Blammo!

The worst part of this month is it becomes impossible to predict what the hell NPD will do for May.

GTA launched in April....but weekly sales rates for 360 declined from 52.4k/week to 47k/week. Thats a 10% average weekly sales dip. In GTA month. PS3 is similar - 51.4k/week to 46.8/k is about a 10% average weekly sales dip.

Halo 3 month by NPD for 360 after a price cut was 100k+ per week but you gotta figure Halo 3 was most of that.

Well, Microsoft said sales went up 54% GTA IV week,. That would mean it averaged 41.3k the three weeks prior to GTA IV, and 64k GTA IV week. The three weeks prior to GTA IV would have averaged 11k lower than the five weeks in March averaged .

Props to donny2112 from GAF for summarizing the month with a graph.

I don't buy this recession argument either. It may cost upto $500 for a PS3 but its not a bloody movie the damn thing will keep most people happy for at least five years if you buy any reasonable amount of games at all. You'll get 1000+ hours of enjoyment if you pick the right games. The value is unbeatable for all the consoles as far as I'm concerned if you pick the brand that has what you like.

I agree with what you are saying in general, but didn't ChartTrack say that the PS3 and 360 saw 127% and 125% jumps for the week release of GTA IV? We certainly did not see that in the US, no where near to that kind of jump, so one could deduce that economic conditions may have had, even if ever so slightly an impact in the States.
