Forums - Sales - If Nintendo had released another traditional console

If Ninty had released a traditional console...

I would have kept it rather than sell it. Nintendo would have focused more on in-game content rather than force a control scheme that doesn't always work. It would be like the Ocarina of Time days.

I sold my Wii because my Gamecube already serves the purpose, especially with Zelda (and it plays better with standard controller).

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

It would've been a kids console for those kids with parents rich enough to buy HDTV's for enhanced cartoony detail for extra childishness.

...

That was a dig for PS2 fanboys by the way.

Anyway, the PS3 would be in a much better position, we'd have a bigger base of idiots using the same old ridiculous insults against Nintendo, and console gaming as a whole probably wouldn't last another generation after that.

I'd pick wiimote and nunchuck control any day over game cube controls. It's not only the sensor capability that amazes me everytime but mainly the ability to use my hands independently while playing.

I'm pretty certain that the conventional path for Nintendo would have only have had them produce a system that sold less than the Gamecube ... The Gamecube was easy to develop for, very powerful and inexpensive and struggled because they could not afford to deal with the same strategies that Sony and Microsoft could; if Microsoft is throwing around money to get publishers to port games to their system it makes it very difficult for Nintendo to convince these same publishers to port the same game without some sort of "incentive".

The current generation could be different.
If the last gen the gamecube sold very poorly, what would the wave had to make thing different?
I'm gald that Ninty didn't do it and invented the Wii Mote. I'm happy as it is

I believe the Wii was there only chance to make a real comeback. With a traditional console they wouldn't have done better than with the GameCube, and probably worse, following the down trend of the Nintendo home consoles.
