Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft So Happy It Didn't Make a Handheld Console

Well considering that the PSP is living off of the scraps of the DS, mediaphiles and a certain group of people that consider themselves "truly hardcore gamers", it would have been insane for MS to enter the handheld market. It's an exaggeration (I mean the PSP does have it's own merits) but the majority of the sales do fall into one of those 3 groups.

Maybe next generation when Touch-screen isn't such a hugely innovative feature in handheld gaming, then it could probably enter the handheld market, I predict clam shell design, dual touch screen, dual analogue sticks and triggers :).

I agree with Rath. I'm thinking of buying one myself just so I can play some of my favourite N64 games which are unlikely to ever grace the VC - Banjo Kazooie, Goldeneye, Perfect Dark etc. In terms of emulation, it's pretty hard to beat.

N64 games don't run too well on the PSP though.

Scraps... The game is selling well enough on it's own.

Well, it's "scraps" are sure helping it beat the DS EVERY WEEK  this year in Japan.

When rumour of MS entering the handheld market - you guys flame them

When MS says "We're glad we didn't enter the handheld market" - you guys flame them..

Fanboy BS at its best, thank you for making these forums so great!

Good thing MS did not enter portable market they would of been pwned big time by both Nintendo and Sony.

Scruff: He's not saying that it doesn't have great games (it does)--he's saying that hardly anyone is buying them.

Topic: I agree, Microsoft should never enter handhelds unless Sony decides not to run again in that market.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

Hi Leni...

What console do you think 90% of Xbox 360 users would of purchased if the 360 didn't exist?? It wouldn't of been the Wii!

PS3 would have double the sales, Bioshock, Mass Effect, Halo, Dead Rising.. and so many other great games... so go ahead wish the 360 out of the market, but then you would basically get no 3rd party support on the Wii just like previous generations.

If anything you should be thanking the 360 for giving developers a great reason to ignore the PS3 and develop on the Wii

That's not (necessarily) true ...

Without the XBox 360 on the market, a large portion of the multiplatform and exclusive XBox 360 games would not have been released in 2006, 2007 and 2008 (and may not have been made at all); if the PS3 and XBox 360 didn't have Call of Duty 4, Devil May Cry 4, Grand Theft Auto 4, Assassin's Creed, Oblivion, Bioshock, Dead Rising, Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Vegas, Rockband and several other major third party games how well would have they been able to keep pace with the Wii?

The XBox 360 having never existed would be far more negative towards the "HD Console" market than it would be for the Wii.
