Forums - Sony - SONY - PS3 to sell 10 Million THIS Fiscal Year --- FIRST Signs of trouble??

OR does it mean NO Price Drop?

Whatever it means its VERY stupid of SONY to predict only a 760K increase in sales when this years PS3 sales have been outselling last years ALMOST by 100K on a weekly basis..

What are your thoughts??

Either no price drop or a very small one. Now you know why MS hasn't played it's big price drop yet, they've been waiting for this to happen...to strike at the time when Sony can't react.

Sony has to stop these losses somehow and you can't do that with price drops, MS did the same last year at the cost of a bit of market share and the profit is now rolling in just in time to price drop this holiday and take PS3 to the cleaners.

I will agree with what a few above said, they are purposely lowballing it. It looks much better to raise your forecast every quarter, than to have to lower it. In 6 months they can raise their forecasts for the second time, claim that it's a huge success and the PS3 train is picking up even more steam, and call it victory. Rather than making a grandiose prediction now, claim that the PS3 has picked up steam already, and then in six months lower their forecast, which would look like failure.

You can find me on facebook as Markus Van Rijn, if you friend me just mention you're from VGchartz and who you are here.

Sony has a target that they'll probably make quite easily. This means they won't cut the price, because they don't have to. If SCE makes its target the board is happy and profit will be higher per unit produced.

They'll also have the ability to up the forecast this year, which makes the management look good.

If some of the above people are correct I must say I am ASHAMED of SONY

what a CHEAP move..."oh we'll predict it low n then raise it later to make Ps3 look like its pwning"

slowing economy & whatnot

but do you personally expect Ps3 to sink back to what i was doing last year??

Being that the PS3 received its price reduction before the holiday season last year, and 10 Million represents 8% growth year over year, I don't think you can claim sales in that range as "sinking back to what it was doing last year" ...

The real fire trial for SCE is to post an annul profit this current fiscal year like said years ago by Sony's CFO:

“In the entertainment business, there are only heaven and hell, and nothing in between and as soon as our customers bore of our products, we will crash.”  Hiroshi Yamauchi

TAG:  Like a Yamauchi pimp slap delivered by Il Maelstrom; serving it up with style.

If they don't cut the price they would at least sell VERY good bundles in all regions (like the MGS4 bundle) let's say a 80GB bundle with DS3 and two 2008 good games plus blu-tooth headset and hdmi cable for $500. Yeah, I know you'd say to me "don't you want a blowjob to go with that too" but hey, that's the least I'd expect if they won't be cutting the price at all this year!

thay wanna look cool

mgs4 will sell 2.4m week 1

japan:500k

others: 1m

NA:900k

AAA (90%+) games (metacritic):

nintendo:65

Xbox: 42

playstation: 98

Personally I think it means they plan on stemming losses by not dropping the price until next year. This will mean they will have a weaker holiday but plausibly actually make a profit per console.

Of course there may be factors in the market that we don't know about but Sony does, this may stem from something that will give a competitor a large advantage over them.
