Forums - Sales - The race to 45nm... PS3 vs. 360

They cut the price only a few weeks before the end of the quarter, it had very little effect on the overall quarter, at best 200k consoles were affected by it...

It will be more interesting to see the effect it has this quarter, especially with Others sales> NA sales so far.

Good point. I thought they cut it in the beginning of March but it turns out it was right in the middle of the month. Only two weeks... Interesting to see how that pans out next quarter.

Sony will win the race to 45nm. The CELL is already in the final stages of R&D for a 45nm dye-shrink and the RSX nVidia won't have issues shrinking by the end of the year.

Yes, this quarter will be more interesting, especially as they seem to be selling a lot more of price cut consoles ( Others) than of the non cut ones (NA).

Something I was wondering, did they cut the price in every country categorized as Others on VGChartz or are there some of them that didn't get affected by a price cut ? ( I was thinking of those non Europe, non Australia markets that represents close to 20-25% of the 360 weekly Others sales).

PS : Oh and if you want to have a good Blue Ray experience, go rent or buy Kingdoms of Heaven Director cut in Blue Ray. It's one of only two Blue Rays I have and on top of the HD experience, the Director Cut adds a lot to the original story...

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

Weird. I don't have that problem. I'd say you were doing something wrong but i can't figure how you could be...

Unless you like kept swinging when your character hadn't full finished his previous movement... though that'd be no different in a fighter.

Maybe your swining a bit "wrong" I know i had trouble occasionally in NMH early on because when i had to swing to the left, i'd slightly move the wiimote to the right first so it'd be more of a broad slash.

As such the slight right movement is what was registered not the left killing blow.

Pretty much all the wiimote "errors" i've seen have been mostly by human error not being used to the controller.

See thats still part of my problem though lol, I might be doing a little wave to the right first, but fact remains that's still the motion that comes naturally to me, the natural motion I would take to make a swing like that, and if it doesn't register because I'm "doing it wrong" then it's not truely immersive to begin with. And fighting games like Naruto and such will never be there, they'll have simple gestures to do special moves and what not, but that's far from the real thing, if it's going to be a (pardon the quote) half assed effort on performing the move, I'd rather just have it be at the press of a button lol.

From 0 to KICKASS in .stupid seconds.

I have rented a few but with the pathetic selection available and the multitude of DVDs I already have, there isn't much point in me dropping $30 to watch mediocre movies like Spider-Man 3 or Resident Evil: Extinction.

So you are saying that RE:Extinction is actually a good movie considering that it is based on a videogame? Cool, because RE:Apocalypse was horrible.

sorry to tell you this but...

Mediocre = lousy

Actually, technically mediocre means "not good, not bad... average". I didn't hate the Resident Evil movie. Probably because I wasn't expecting anything of quality going in and got exactly what I expected. It's a popcorn movie and nothing else.

and this week PS3 has reached, exactly, 2/3 of 360 sales

But if Microsoft cuts the Pro/Premium 100 bucks, they may not be making profit... 360s are sold at a loss as of right now right? And they make their profit off of their astounding Software sales?

I think once Jasper comes out, there will be a price drop, but I don't expect them to profit that much, seeing as that they will likely chop 100 off of each sku.

I have a hard time believing MS isn't making a modest profit from the 360, at least in NA.

It was reported that it cost them roughly $550 to make a Pro in November of 2006 IIRC... Over 18 months later (and one chipset reduction), it has to be nearing half that cost given the state of your average technology price point.

One thing that is really baffling is the 90nm GPU... You would think that 30 months into the life cycle, it would have been reduced by now.

Isn't the falcon 65nm?  Isn't that out now?  The ones with HDMI?
