Hmm interesting.

SONY plans on making a profit in FY08 in their games division.

I have a feeling that PS3 and PS2 sales will exceed their FY08 predication aswell ( i mean their inital FY07 PS2 prediction was waay under ( like 9 million vs. 13.7 million in reality ) ...

Looks preety good from SONY -- nothing amazing but nothing unexpected either ...

I dunno about that. Their initial estimates for the year was $500 million loss. Wound up being $1.245 billion. Their estimates have been too optimistic for the last two years.

I am extremely unimpressed with Sony's PS3 forecasts. I guess they just wanted to make it impossible for them to miss the forecast this year.

What do people think is a reasonable forecast for PS3 in the next year? Maybe 13 million?

whats the gaming divisions profit?

It lost $1.24 billion.

I should have said for the quarter.

About a $280 million loss if I'm adding correctly.

Q1: -$237 Million
Q2: -$841 Million
Q3: +$113 Million
Q4: -$280 Million

The picture isn't as bleak if the currency is in yen though.

Q1: -29.2 Billion
Q2: -96.7 Billion
Q3: +12.9 Billion
Q4: -11.5 Billion

Which is only a loss of $115 Million.

Interesting to note that they exceeded their forecasts for PS2 and PSP, but still fell short of the reduced forecast for PS3s shipped(though not by much). I believe the early forecast of 10M PS3s shipped for the next fiscal year to actually be conservative by Sony for once.

which is it?115 million loss or 280?

It's both. It depends on how you view the currency.

If you take the $115, then you have to raise the losses for the previous quarters.

If you take the $280, then the losses in the previous quarters are less.

Depends on what they keep their currency in.  Chances are they're invested in a broad range of currencies, so the loss will be somewhere between the two due to the falling $.

Either way, it still totals to a $1.245 billion loss for the year.

Yes but surely you were expecting a loss of around $1 billion ....

I think that them predicting a profit for the next fiscal year is preety immpressive -- previously they have only said they *might* be back in the black in FY08 and now they believe they definitly will.

"Consolidated operating income for the current year was more than five times the prior year and the second highest in Sony´s history."

I guess not every thing was bad for Sony this year.

No, they are not blind fanboys. (not directed at you) They know they will not miraculasly double there sales in the 3rd year.

Though it is interesting that they are predicting less than half what Nintendo is for the Wii for the fiscal year. I don't see how this estimation will allow them to be #1 by the end of 10 years, if it were to actually last that long, if Nintendo keeps out doing them by more than 2:1.

What's astonishing is that their target was 9.5 million (reduced from 11M) for the FY 2007 (which they barely missed) and they're only projecting 10M for FY 2008 (ending March 31, 2009), only a 500K increase. And I thought the PS3 was surging...

They'll probably increase their forecast later. I project sales of 14M for FY 2008.
