Forums - Gaming - Starcraft series V's Halo series

I am apalled you would even hold those two in the same breath.

Starcraft is the sole game that catalyzed the competitive tournament scene for gamers. More than a DECADE later its still selling better than many of the newer games out there.

Halo is just some console FPS. It wasn't the first, it wasn't the best. Maybe the most hyped. 10 years from now, see if anyone still talks about Halo.

This. Starcraft is one of the greatest games of all time, easily, any genre, any platform, and its story/universe is one it strongest aspect.

StarCraft... HANDSDOWN! I still play it every once and a while to this day.

Starcraft is the better game hands down I highly doubt anyone will play any of the Halo series 10 years from now but Starcraft is a flawless game if you ask me, great story, perfect gameplay, and some of the best custom maps for its time even now it the ideas people come up with are pretty good. I really can't wait for SC2 and some answers to some of the things in SC and SC:BW. Halo is kinda meh and Halo Wars just really seem like it will be a knock off of Starcraft.

Starcraft? Halo? You're kidding, right?
Starcraft is one of the greatest games of all time and can blow away Halo 1/2/3, Meta Gear Solid 1/2/3/4, Devil May Cry 1/2/3/4, Final Fantasy 1/2/3/4... and many others. StarCraft: Brood War is the only game that is still in World Cyber Games list from the start in 2000 and will be there untill Starcraft 2 comes out. This is 8 years in World Cyber Games. 8 years! Halo was in this list only 2 years, Halo 2 only one. Do you know how many copies this game sold? Do you know how many professional players it has? Only BoxeR gain a fanclub of over half a million people. Halo is big. Starcraft is a monster.

If anything Halo is a copy of marathon which was made before starcraft.

This has already been said, but Halo is an FPS, and Starcraft's a RTS. You can't really compare them in terms of gameplay. The comparison might be valid when/if Halo Wars comes out, but that's in the future.

Even so, they do have something in common IMO:

Both are solid games, albeit horrendously overrated in some circles (Total Annihilation FTW) - especially the storylines / single player campaigns in both games.

Both series will have / have already had sequels consisting mainly of a graphical facelift and some minor gameplay tweaks.

And both games have their small share of fans who would qualify as fundamentalist zealots in religious groups.

En Taro Cortana? Jim Raynor, Master Chief?

I struggle to see any real link aside from "Sci Fi" and Aliens. Well, also awesome multiplayer I suppose. So, whoever told you they were similar either has a perspective I completely lack, or is batshit crazy.

Terrans = Space Marines, Zerg = flood, and Protoss = Covenant

no similarities eh?

Ive said it before and I'll say it again. Halo is a starcraft and Half life rip off

Funny. Bungie started work on Halo in 1995 or something like that and it was originally an RTS.

Starcraft and Half-Life released in 1998.

*swing and a miss*

Besides, you're completely ignoring how heavily games like Half-Life drew on Marathon, the original Bungie FPS that released in the early 90s.

People who think Halo was Bungie's first sci-fi franchise crack me up.

good points rocketpig.

A lot of people forget about Bungie's past. I also still like the Myth games.

Is Starcraft 2 coming to 360? I thought I read it in this site before.

Never played Starcraft but from what my Korean friends tell me - it's awesome.

Maybe I'll give it a try if it comes to 360 - I don't play games on my PC.

In the case of Starcraft, you'll really want to play it on PC. I couldn't imagine a Blizzard RTS on console. Luckily, if you have a decent processor and RAM, a moderate vid card would set you up. Blizzard games never push the technological envelope and are geared to run full settings on mid-high systems right at launch.
