Today THQ announced that they have entered into a worldwide licensing agreement with Konami granting them exclusive rights to develop video games based on Metal Gear Solid 4.
Hideo Kojima, the director of the upcoming cinematic gaming experience, told Next Gen that he is extremely pleased with this deal. "I had always felt that the Metal Gear Solid saga lent itself to video gaming, despite our famous emphasis on story. Some have even confused our groundbreaking computer generated cut scenes with video games," he recalled with a smile.
The closeness of the deal to the release of Metal Gear Solid 4 makes it impossible to release a game in that time, so the first game is expected to be released sometime in the holiday season this year. It is expected to be released for the PC, PS3, 360, Wii, and PS2, although such details are only speculation.
When asked about what kind of games THQ would be developing, company reps said we would have to wait until E3 this year, for the first trailers to be shown, although they said that Kojima is already closely working with the development teams. One anonymous source said that the Splinter Cell series is heavily influencing the game Kojima wants to see.
A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.
