^^No, the trailer was from UE2, which the original Gears ran on. Unreal Tournament used UE3, and now Gears 2 will use 'UE3.5'

Actually Gears of War 1 runs on the UE3.

Gears 2 is running on an improved version of that.

Am I supposed to be disapointed by these screenshots? Am I missing something?

All I know is that the video released a few days back looked pretty damn good. That's all I really care about.

"I found an essential component of Marcus Fenix missing all throughout the video - his vicious scar, which has been quite evident in almost all versions of Gears of war, is somehow… missing."

This is very odd. Why is a vital piece of the main characters appearance absent?

In general though, I thought the graphics in the trailer looked great.

It's possible the new version of the Unreal Engine wasn't complete before Gears 2 went into production, so some of the new effects may be missing.

Although I'm sure Epic could probably add them at a later date.

Maybe part or all of Gears 2 is a prequel to Gears 1 and explains how he got the scar.

Anyways, I wasn't disapointed at all with the gameplay trailer, it looked like fun to me, but then again, I've never been one to count pixels or polygons or whatever.

That thought did occur to me.

However, If you listen to the start of the trailer on GT, Cliffy B states that the scene on show takes place directly after the events of the first game.

(Something about trucks with drills etc.)

So it's not a flashback or a prequel.

The most effective way to bash a console is to pretend that you like it, but then sneak in a negative tone, language and arguments. That way you lure the reader into thinking you are presenting valid arguments. Also, it makes it harder for chritics to just dismiss you as a fanboy.

So lets examine this post, the methods of trying to create a negative aura around a game coming to the X360:

The thread title, very negative:
"Gears of War: Details and disappointments"

This line makes it sound like the graphics quality of the game remains an enigma:
"The moral of the story is that we wait and watch till E3 2008 when CliffyB will showcase a brand new gameplay trailer with a much updated engine, but until then, we can wonder…"

He is trying to steer the following discussion into questioning the game's GOTY status:
"YOUr thoughts.....will GEOW 2 NOT take away the GOTY 08 awards anymore?"

And in the same sub-forum he has a thread with this blatant title (the main competitor to GoW2):
"MGS4 = Gone Gold Ceremony! [MUST READ] --- GOTY 08 NO DOUBTS!!!"

you use the word fanboy way too much. it just makes you sound like a hypocrite.

I'm sorry, I don't get it. The main complaint I see here is that Gears 2 doesn't look as good as in the magazine scans, and the reason for that is because they used Unreal Engine 3 instead of 3.5.

That doesn't make sense. I saw the swarms of Locust on the ground...that wasn't possible before...so therefore it's 3.5.

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

"The gameplay shown doesn’t make use of features shown off in Unreal 3.5, be it ambient occlusions, or meat cubes, the realistic water effects. The level of detail was sort of bland"

OK this guy is abit confused i think, where in that level are you going to show off water effects, and a cube of meat.

Doats1 I agree. If anything the OP makes some statements on some very good findings. He shows that the game is utilising very little if at all UE3.5. Read his post properly. It appears although unofficial that the trailer I watched is quite unfinished. Is actually quite obvious. I say well done OP. Cant wait for more new videos.

don't get me wrong, i think the images are great. but slimebeast uses the word fanboy like it's going out of fashion. if the OP is quoting news, then why should he be a fanboy for that?

exactly. You would show that off in a tech demo. Not game play footage.

selnor is speculating speculation

the demo looked good to me, anyway any lack of quality can simply be attributed to the fact that this demo is shown in may, the game is not out till november.
