If the current trends hold I would say that PS3 and 360 are going to be spending their entire lifetime in good company. And as most games will be released on both consoles, that's all very fine.

If I have to make a prediction, and I guess I do since I'm posting here (Duh!) I would say it will be sometime in 2010. Not that it will really matter by then, both consoles having sold somewhere around 40 million (that's a really loose number). A 10 million or so gap would in the end not mean all that much.

The main reason I'm thinking PS3 is going to pass by 360 is blu-ray. That and the RROD. Just my gut feeling.

If FFXIII will be released in Q1 2009, then in Q1 2009, if in Q2 2009, then in Q2 2009.
Since KZ2 coming in Q1 and probably GoW3 too, the only game is left is FFXIII. =)

2009.04.30 - PS3 will OUTSELL x360 atleast by the middle of 2010. Japan+Europe > NA.


Gran Turismo 3 - 1,06 mln. in 3 weeks with around 4 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Gran Turismo 4 - 1,16 mln. with 18 mln. PS2 on the launch.

Final Fantasy X - around 2 mln. with 5 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Final Fantasy X-2 - 2.4 mln. with 12 mln. PS2 on the launch.

 

1.8 mln. PS3 today(2008.01.17) in Japan. Now(2009.04.30) 3.16 mln. PS3 were sold in Japan.
PS3 will reach 4 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 25k.

PS3 may reach 5 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 50k.
PS2 2001 vs PS3 2008 sales numbers =) + New games released in Japan by 2009 that passed 100k so far

At this rate, the PS3 will be leading the 360 by 5 million consoles by the end of 2008.

Notice I said at THIS RATE. IT DOES NOT MEAN SET IN STONE. GAME RELEASES ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE THIS FOR BOTH CONSOLES.

Unless you think that the PS3 will outsell the 360 a million a month, meaning it will sell about 400K a week, for 3 months due to 3 games, then that is the most absurd thing I have ever heard. Sony does not have that much stock. Game spikes last AT THE MOST 1 month. So that is just crazzy man.

I'll wait for Sony's Q1 earnings. (june 30th) And I'll see how much profit Sony has made with the slow months of the year. Then I'll take into how much they are able to cut price and how effective it will be.

I think the people saying 2008 are hoping for just as effective price drop from last one (which if it is 100 i think it will be)

It's a pretty logical thing to say wouldn't you think? The 360 slowed down and now has a stable line of sales going for it, the Wii amazingly is still selling incredibly but that will also eventually do the same thing. Really you can say that right now the PS3 is having it's first real show of demand since it's launch. Yes it's been selling well for months now but before that began it had naff all going for it. While it's been a long time coming and may last for a good while yet it WILL eventually slow down.

People talk about all of these things that are going to happen for the PS3, but NEVER think of how the 360 will react. What's to say there won't be another 360 price drop in the year before Christmas? What's to say the likes of GeOW2 won't be the must have title for the end of the year? The 360 has many more exclusives going for it and has one up over the PS3 when it comes to multiplats. The 360 isn't just going to stop selling.    

The PS3's sales will slow down, and it won't rush ahead of the 360. I reckon anyone thinking otherwise isn't thinking realistically.

Well, the gap is definitely less than 6 million, read my sig. And yeah, say whatever you want about it, but if you're willing to believe that cocky MS executive in everything he says, then you must also believe his sources are pretty reliable, and with the pride and confidence he says this I really don't think he's been conservative, not when in the same interview he's talked and bragged as everthing except a conservative man.
