Forums - Gaming - Have you been happy with this current generation?

^Yes or No? Discuss

I believe the best is yet to come. Within the next year or two we will see the best games on all three current generation consoles, PS3, Wii and X360.

Yes, I have been quite content! As a testamony, I have never been so active in the gaming community as a whole. I was around 12 when the N64 started and got me into gaming. The internet wasn't around that easily, let alone messageboards etc I knew.

Then next generation, I was into PC gaming (battlefield, clan community) but held Nintendo in my heart. then the Wii came along, got me excited and now I'm a rabbid follower of anything game-related.

And i'm glad that I did. Combining my Wii and PC I have a varied gaming life ranging from shooters and strategy (PC) to all the adventuregames I love from nintendo and more (Zelda, Metroid, Mario, No More Heroes you name it.) And as you said, the best is yet to come and keeps me giddy like a schoolgirl!

Let this generation be a testamony of what this market can do!

I am definitely happy with my favorite games coming out but i feel that this gen has been mostly about how technically superior X or Y game is and we're missing that big leap in cinematic story telling and innovative gameplay next gen should also be about.

I have found that consoles are finally satisfactory compared to PC games. Control schemes and gameplay have all improved. Im still a little disapointed with the small environments in games, I perfer games like Crysis to RFOM where you're playing in a tunnel.

Tease.

Personally, it all seems quite tired, game wise there have been glossy looking games doing the same old, or games with huge ambitions which fall horribly short. I doubt something will catch my fancy like the N64 did at the time. The Wii I concede is doing different things with motion control, but I just can't get used to waving my arm around to aim, or wanking my remote for in-game motions.

All in all, the industry just seems quite boring these days, Bioshock = System Shock,
Ratchet and Clank Future = well, you get where I'm going. Too many companies play it safe and produce the same old. Sure they were fun the first couple of times, do anything enough and it gets boring, even wanking my Wiimote all night.

I've been horrified by Sony's performance this Gen. I was an avid ps2 fan and I was hoping it would just be the case where I only had to buy one console this gen. I never even looked at an xbox last gen and now it appears I will buy one in the near future because of all the exclusives/timed exclusives that come out on it. A wii too now that I think about it (project zero and MonHunter jumped ship to the wii). I just can't believe one company can lose so much in the space of a single gen.

On the positive side though, it was intense competition by companies this gen that has led to a huge amount off innovation this gen, like the wiimote, sixaxis ect.

Edit: I just want to point out that overall this has been a good generation! It's mainly that I begrudge the expense of buying 3 consoles instead of one =P

As far as I'm concerned, this gen has been very underwhelming so far, like most gens are only 2-3 years into their span.
There's no reason for me (yet, mind you!) to buy a current gen console and nearly all the PC "AAA" titles were major letdowns (Bioshock and Crysis take the crown here).
Get a frickin grip already, I want good games!

YES. This is the 1st generation that I have bought all 3 consoles. And so far I have had a blast with many games. For a generation that is 2 years old, I am fairly impressed. I am also happy to see nintendo leading the industry again with huge amounts of software coming for Wii and DS, we're getting a good game practically on weekly basis between those two. Meanwhile the PS3/360 have 2 - 3 huge big budget exclusive games a year each. This makes for a constant stream of fun.
