GFK confirmed that in their data PS3 has outsold x360 in AU in GTA opening week 2:1.Also, according to EB games they also outsold X360 in AU in that week.(EB games is not included in GFK hardware figure).so in total in that week PS3 hardware outsold X360 by more than 2 to 1 ratio.

He had just received the sales information for the week following April 27 from Australia market research specialists GFK, and confidently told us that, on a console level, PlayStation 3 had outsold Xbox 360 2 to 1.

Over 2 to 1 is very good! Too bad this doesn't reflect well on VGChartz' data though, which has the 360 outselling the PS3 straight for the last 4 weeks for the country.

Install base for the end of 2007 fiscal year according to Sony Australia:

238,000 PS3 (includes Bravia deals, sold in 9 months and 1 week)
306,000 Xbox 360 (21 months and 1 week)

On average about 6.400 PS3s per week.
On average about 3.600 360 per week.

correction More weeks of sales have to be added for both platforms, these are more recent figures. 

IMO the latest Sony/GfK data and the release of MGS4 makes it seem likely a similar trend will continue for the rest of the year.

At such a rate the PS3 should be able to overtake the 360's total install base for Australia before December 2008 or if sales slow down at least finish the job over the holidays. A good achievement as Australia like the UK are two of the strongest 360 markets outside of North America.

I don't think so, it probably requires something bigger than MGS4. Final Fantasy XIII, Gran Turismo 5 together with a slimline PS3 will probably do the trick next year. At about twice the entry price for the UK currently this will take some time.

This is great news for the PS3. Australia is basically similar to Europe and they mainly Sony fans.

Although a Sony employee might not be seen as a trustable source for GfK data, I think there is little chance he "lied" about that ratio.
