Only a rabid fanboy would call the X360 "sinking" when the truth is that the X360 has increased a whopping 40% in world-wide sales in 2008 compared to 2007.

libellule this was a very unneccessary thread.

.....well are you going to mention ps3's or wii's increase? or did you forget to pick those cherries?

But no one was claiming they were sinking. We know those systems increased their sales. The point is that so did the 360.

It's all relative though. Relative to itsself, it's doing great, but relative to the PS3 and Wii, it's sinking. It still has healthy sells, there's no doubting that, it's just that in terms of month-to-month sales, it's in last place amongst the 3. And when you were once in the lead, this situation is called sinking (in THIS generation. Don't try and pull a "since the PS2 was on top, the PS3 must be sinking" or something along those lines)

No. Sinking means a negative. Relativity makes positives look bigger or smaller, but it does not inverse them. So that is just bull.

The 360 is making money now, unlike the Xbox, and according to this week's hardware sales, the 360 is still selling about 250k worldwide, which is mcuh better than it has been doing the past few weeks. Those are not sinking, even from a reletive point of view.

Depends on what criteria your judging , in respect to the 360's performance against [itself] it's not sinking , it's showing a steady improvment . In respect to it's performance against the PS3/Wii it is actualy [sinking] , it is no longer outselling the Wii neither is it outselling the PS3 anymore ( in terms of hardware ) therfore in comparison to where it was and where it is now it is indeed (negativley) sinking.

Microsoft are also far from recouping the cost's of the 360 , RROD , Buying exclusives , 10/10 reviews , Halo 3 advertising , GTA IV DLC and the list goes on.....

The 360 is not making money.  The 360 was MOVED for accounting purposes into the 'Entertainment and Devices" division starting FY08.  That means every time Microsoft sells a mouse, keyboard, remote control, etc THAT makes a profit for that division.  We can guess how much profit the 360 contributes to the "Entertainment and Devices" division but you CAN NOT say the the 360 made 532M in the first 9 months of FY08!! Microsoft sells a ton of Mice, keyboards etc and they mae lots of money doing that....

Please stop posting this 532M profit CRAP for 360! It is NOT true!

------------------------------------------------------

Considering 2007 to 2008 was a shift of $2.4B, I would say most of that was the X360 and not a mass migration of mice.  Not 532M, of course, but a good chunk.

MS would want more, but I think it is doing okay, esp. vs. the XBox.  That never made a profit and X360 is, with still increasing sales.

Torturing the numbers.  Hear them scream.

What I meant was you screaming that it wasn't over for HD DVD until Toshiba said so. But you were man enough to salute the victor once that finally DID happen and as I said I don't think that guy has any reason to mention it.

As I wrote, it was a bad time in my life, and I was tired of people bashing HD DVD instead of praising blu-ray (there was a difference), but again, a bad time in my life, and that just wasn't helping.

As for this, unless it's Microsoft being $6 billion in the hole, and unless the 360 is losing sales in every way, not just market share, this is not sinking. It's just losing a bit of hardware market share, but still having plenty of software market share.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

thats only because of the price drop and GTA 4 why its selling that much this week

MS lead at PS3 launch - 7 million
MS lead today - 6.3 million

Squandered confirmed!!

Yes, the lead was 7 million at launch but after the ps3 launch the xbox continued to outsell it, racking up nearer a 10 million lead, which has now been reduced to 6.3 million.

 So yes, lead squandered!

Could you kindly point me towards you're 10 million lead? Well you said almost 10 million... so show me at least a 9 million lead..

ok, so maybe you rounded it up by a few million.. show me an 8 million lead?

If you consider that the 360 operates practically on two major markets, while the PS3 operates on three, the 360 is still doing ok. Without Japanese sales, it's 18 mill versus 10.4 mill..

Sony fans cant see this trueth...

I LOVE IT!!!

i love how last year all 360 fans where like ps3 is doomed!!! and every sony fan was like it will catch up in sales next year (2008). All 360 fans was like "omg halo and games, games, games, when the fact is sony has more coming lol.

Now its the other way around (yes sony sales is greater then 360 for the 1st half of 2008 and will grow) and now all 360 fans are like "it doesnt matter if sony ssles more because 360 sales the most games (untrue wii does) and its making microsoft money" (also untrue).

i guess 2008 really is a turning point for sony...

What I think...

PS3 is catching up with 360.
360 is less in demands right now.

I think the Xbox is going to be hit hard by the release of MGS4, that game looks too good, already getting 10/10's.

So it's going to be a tough summer for the Xbox despite having the awesome NG2 (which will do very well but nothing like MGS4).

Once the MGS4 hype dies down, then the 360 will be able to pick up again with it's new releases such as Fable 2 but i can't really a see a period of 360 outselling the PS3 anytime soon.

So basically 360 isn't dead, far from it, as long as it manages to keep up its sales, it will do fine. The 360 will be competing with ps3 untill the end of this gen, both are doing great.

Look. Japan is not a factor in the HD console war this gen. They love the Wii and the PSP. Nothing else. From this point on, we may officially discount Japan sales for all consoles except those two. (and maybe the DS if Nintendo releases another version of it)

Not trying to be a fanboy. Of course, it's hard when you own the best console eve... dang it

It took so long to go from "Wii is doomed" to "XBOX360 is doomed"
