Forums - Gaming - Anticipatory MGS4 Conspiracy Thread

I think it's an issue when certain gaming websites that aren't known for dolling out ridiculously high scores start posting 10's that i becomes an issue

for GTA4 it was IGN and Gamespot
for Halo I'm guessing it was GT's 9.8
for SMG well, there's a strong number of people that believed 9.8 from ign and GT were excessive (i'm not one of them though).

I personally couldn't care less about Gamerankings anymore, it's gotten to the point that nearly all random joe's reviews are included into the ranking system and there's the "trusted" websites that seem to dish out nothing but 10's (i'm looking at you gamespy).

I think your right though azrm2k, it's only an issue if they break top 10 on GR apparently, but it didn't seem to apply to the orange box though.

my only conspiracy theory complaints are the SPOLERS that are going to be spread on the net, the game launches in japan first,,, i will not read anything related to mgs4 until i finish it, i will not repeat my mgs2 mistake (btw i though it was fantastic and met my hype for it, but i got sad that i knew that raiden was the main character before playing the game, which killed the WTF moment for me)

Currently Playing: Final Fantasy XIII (PS3), White Knight Chronicles (PS3), PES 2010 (PS3), Killzone 2 (PS3)

Games to Finish: Silent hill Homecoming (PS3), Valkyria Chronicles (PS3), Oblivion (PS3)

U are putting oil on fire by creating such a thread ...

They launch on the same day, so it shouldn't be an issue.

@ libellule: Maybe, but I would like to think that I am making the conspiracy theorists look like idiots beforehand and hopefully stop some of the ridiculous claims such as those that flew around during the GTA IV launch.  Its all in good fun at the end of the day.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

We would have had anyway probably 10's of threads like this..

People have to remember, that some "10/10" do not mean 100%, in some cases they are 5 stars, or in this case they are just integers. So it means that the game is amazing, and simply blows your mind, but it does not have to be perfect

Well EGM/1up should have the MGS4 review soon.

The point isn't that they're perfect, the point is that you need to leave room for games that aren't signficantly flawed and might offer the player something truly revolutionary.

After all, it's not really fair to give a flawed game the same "10" as a game that doesn't have the flaws and might do everything a little better, right?

Amen to that!!! Every 10 out of 10 that I see now almost puts me off to the game which really is sad. It's like this game got 10 out 10 in terms of hype and it is a fantastic game so it should get a 10 out of 10 score. I really do hope that MGS4 deserves a 10 but when the reviewer says something along the lines that he gave it a 10 despite minor flaws then I just cannot take the review or reviewer seriously.

But the problem rocket is when review sites and shows use a scale out of 5, especially if it's just integers. There just isn't enough variety there to accurately critique all the games. The whole numerical scoring system is flawed with different scales and different views on what a certain score means to each reviewer.

At this point my philosophy is that it's best just to use the GR average as a guideline to compare games (a GR average of 94% should definitely be better than one with a 72% average) and just read individual reviews ignoring the score at the end for any particular review.
