Because TOO MANY good games are coming out. Hypothetical: What if 5 games, all of Ocarina of Time quality, came out in a short period of time. Would you want them to get 8s and 9s, just so SO MANY 10s won't get handed out?

Honestly, I'm not too bothered by what socres MGS4 will get. It could get a bunch of 5/10's for all I care - I'd buy it anyway. Still, I suppose it'd be nice if MGS4 is the PS3's first exclusive game to get an average score of 90+.

Exactly. I've played every game that received multiple 10s over the past year and frankly, I don't think a single one of them deserves that kind of score. They're all good but they lack the "wow" factor I expect from a 10 game and every single one of them had pretty significant faults. SMG had a buggy camera and it was an evolutionary step from M64, BioShock was in many ways a worse game than its predecessors, Halo 3 was too bloody short and just like Halo 2, and GTA IV was buggy as all get-out with repetitive missions.

When reviewers are handing out perfect scores to flawed games, the review system is pretty much worthless. What happens if a game like Spore flips the industry on its head with radically different gameplay and a perfect interface? Will reviewers start handing out 11s to differentiate it from the flawed games they gave 10s earlier in the year? 


Trust me I get it.  You guys feel those games don't deserve those scores while I and others do.  Is really simple actually.  Only read reviews that align with what you think and everyone will be happy.  There are plenty of rocketpigs out there giving "real" reviews that will make you happy.  Just look under gamerrankings towards the bottom and for most games there will be some 80's there just for you.  Hell GTA got an 85 from some one for the 360 version which may align more with what you thought of the game.  What we are seeing really is a difference of opinions is all.  Just look at the uproar when zelda got an 8 in gamespot LOL.  It will now be quoted as the biggest review blunder ever just because they went against the mold.  Basically someone will ALWAYS disagree with you opinion because they see things different so reviews are just fine because that is what ends up happening.  Like many say, instead of worrying about the numbers why not read the review.  Pretend the number is just make believe :)

5 games the quality of Ocarina of Time have not come out. All of the games that have been getting these kinds of amazing scores are an evolutionary progression of the last game in a series except for Bioshock which is a new FPS which hasn't been done to death right? ALso I get the OOT comment. You're trying to say that I'm a Nintendo fan so I'm crying. I am a Nintendo fan but I'm a fan of games in general. I don't believe SMG or Brawl should be getting 10's either. 10's are for game where you are like ,"Wow!!! I have never played anything like that before!!!" None of these games that are getting 10's are anything like that. I've played games long enough to know. There isn't a truly revolutionary game out there now.

Why are people so hell bent on Ocarina of TIme LOL.  Oh yeah because it got such high scores by the fanboys that you all hate today.  Seriously that isn't even my favorite zelda nor my cousins who has played all of them.  Again is difference of opinion.  Your 10 can be a 5 for me and vise versa.  Is almost like religion when people just can't question the past yet are free to critize and screw the future.  If I had to buy 1 game ever it would not be Ocarina of Time so why is it being regarded as the best ever?  Just because nobody could question it like they do today.  Again people are just spolied because in the previous gen we would get LOTS of crappy games with a few gems in between vs now we are getting many good games at once.  Well that is it for me on this topic since it should be fairly clear where I stand by now heh

 Ok, fair enough. Your more bashing the review system. I on the other hand, thought all those games were good, so I think the review system works rather well. None of them, other then GTA4, consistently got a 10 however.

I agree that all of those games are good too. I also am just bashing the review system and not the games. A 10 out of 10 should not be handed out 4, 5, 6, or 7 times a year. That's all.

Hell, I hope MGS4 earns a 10 in my book. They fixed the controls, which will help a lot. The controls in MGS3 ruined the game for me. In 2004, they were horribly outdated. It's widely known that I despise the character Raiden and almost the entire story of MGS2 so I'm not holding my breath for MGS4 but I hope the game surprises me.
