So basically both companies are saying neither of them have the full information but since MS took a shot at it, so therefore sony does as well.
Considering what a crap hole EB games is here, I would say Gfk > Eb games in terms of their credibility of what they say.
For those non-aussies here, 2 simple truths about EB:
1) They represent a small proportion of the games/consoles sold in australia, they are the largest games retailer only because they have such little competition (the major game sellers Big W and JB hifi are classified into department and electronic goods stores respectively, NOT game stores), their only real competitors are the up and coming GAME stores and Gametraders, who have been around for a while but don't seem to know what management is.
2) EB is overtly biased towards the PS3. I've been to MANY MANY EB games across my state, and have only seen one EB sales person advise the consumer to buy the 360 over the PS3. The amount of bad mouthing about the 360 that goes on in that store is pathetic. I'm not the only person that notices this as well, go to any Aus gaming site and they'll tell you EB games sucks AND that it's bias towards PS3.
I'm not saying that MS is right and that Sony is wrong or vice versa, but until actual numbers come out, take both company statements with a grain of salt.

I'm sure GfK extimate for EB games, even if they don't track them. I think Sony are saying that the GTA IV bundle wasn't included with the GfK figures MS were using. Either way it seems to have sold pretty equally in Australia.

I thought it might just have been me, but I've noticed this too. I don't often go to EBs since they are a complete ripoff, but on the odd occation I go in for a browse, I almost always hear them trying to up sell the PS3 to the clueless customer at the counter. It's usually the same marketing spin that we read here from Sony, but I've heard outright lies from them too, including that there will not be a PS4 because the PS3 is completely upgradable, just like a pc, hence will be cheaper in the long run as you don't need to buy a completely new console...
As you've said, take both sides with a grain of salt, but after the rubbish I've heard in EBs, they lack any credibility as far as I'm concerned.

Unfortunately not, I forgot they always get cagey before earnings announcements.
On the plus side, GfK have usually released quarterly sales by now, hopefully Sony have asked them to wait until after tomorrows earnings announcement. So we may get Australian Q1 results soon.
