haha...look at the sales histry for GTA series and Japan. I love when people are wrong within the first few sentances of a post as I can stop reading the rest of the post

Thats actually an accurat statement,GTA being a western game sells great in Japan about 400k first week great.

400k for previous installments is a respectable number for the game. I can see it selling more than that this time around. Disolitude maybe you should do research before you speak.

hmm, lets see...400k for a game sold on a platform that sold over 20 million around that time frame.

GTA4 is going on sale on 3.7 million consoles. You can do research all you want but common sense you will not find...

Also, 400K is one half of Army of 2 in USA alone btw...does that game gave "Amazing sales"?

Dude their is definitely a double standard to Japan,Japanese games sell in Japan because of the cultural diffrence but western games dont sell.

MK Wii is out of stock in my town at at least two retailers. One of them had stock a week ago and I have never seen them sell out of a Wii game before. They were my super-secret dealer when everybody else was out of No More Heroes. Luckily, they did have Boom Blox. Between that and WiiWare, I should be able to wait a little longer for Kart.

@ the OP

Yes, we know GTA IV wins the week one award. Halo 3 also won the week one award against Super Mario Galaxy, but Galaxy is now set to overtake Halo 3 sales before the end of this year. I'm not saying that Kart will necessarily outsell GTA IV, as I'm sure GTA IV will have better legs than Halo 3, but first week sales are a poor indication of overall success, especially when comparing to Nintendo titles which tend to squeeze into top-10 lists months after initial release.

Mario Kart doesn't have to destroy GTA IV, it just has to remind people that GTA IV won't destroy the Wii, and that the platform still has incredibly fun games coming out for it. And yes, there are even a few gamers who deferred purchasing GTA IV to buy MK Wii. They've posted in this forum.

Once again it seems that Wii and PS3 only compete if it's in the PS3's favor but as soon as Wii stomps PS3...oh, they don't really compete.

These are SW sales not HW were talking about.

BTW, the Nintendo fanboys are claiming Wii Fit will own GTA IV, not Mario Kart.

Not for opening week sales, make that very clear. In the long run, not weeks or months but years.

400k would be 20% of the PS3 userbase in Japan and would make it the third best selling PS3 game. Ain't gonna happen.

That's where your math fails. 20% of Ps3's user base now. What will Ps3's sales be in a year (3mil by end of year I say AKA 13%)?

This is where your logic fails again... Did you see the drop GTA: San Andreas had on ps2? After 10 weeks no one gave a ratts ass about GTA in japan.

That's what you think. What do you think would attract Japanesse gamers more? A game with urban america gangs or a game with the russian mob? Take a look at Vice City. It sold more in japan than SA but SA sold more copies. You'll see. It will push a decent amount of units. More than a Japanese game like Okami...

@hanafuda

While GTA4 will most likely have higher sales than mario kart, I can't see mario kart being the loser here. Nintendo probably spent 1/20th of the budget, time and effort developing mario kart compared to GTA4... and simultaneously released it along side the biggest game of 2008.

The fact we are even comparing the 2 means that Nintendo overachieved with Mario Kart.

I prefer GTA4 to the new MArio Kart but saying that a title that is a brushed up version of a last gen game with online play lost to a 100 million juggernaut because it ill sell 25% less in the long run is ridiculous.

@Hanafuda
you know MKWii had the best opening ever for a Mario Kart game?

Um, you are being logical. I meant what the fanboys are claiming.

So let me get this straight. The two platforms are not competing, but the way you use the platforms are competing? The entire industry revolves around software sales! That is where the competition comes from!
