Forums - Gaming - Who thinks the Wii is directly competing with 360/PS3 and why ?

Yes, they are.

"In fact most of the comparable aspects of the PS3/360 vs the Wii are different appart from the fact that they both play games"

Look to the heart of the matter, not the fringes. They're video game consoles, made by different companies, in the same markets, at the same time. What more do you want?

I agree with the OP. My cell phone plays games. My IPod plays games. The Zune plays games. The I-Phone plays games. None of these compete directly with the DS or PSP.

I had a thread a long time ago that asked if you really wanted a Wii, and got a PS3 or 360, would you feel your needs were met? How about vise-versa?

The answer across the board was no. If someone really wanted a 360 or PS3, and got the other one, it would be a tuff call to spend $500+ to get what your missing from the one you didn't get. Not true with the Wii vs HD consoles.

Now there are people who want both, but that's because those target audiences overlap, not because they are the same audience. I also want a cell phone, and a PSP ;)

PS3 : High Functionaility (Cell Proccesor,Blu-Ray , PSN , Bluetooth , Wi-Fi , HD etc)

XBOX 360 : High Functionality ( Xenon, XBOX Live , HD-DVD , Wi-Fi- , HD , Hard Drive etc)

Wii : Standard Functionality (Wii-Mote Online play , Games , Friend Codes etc )

Why do you name the processor name? In that case I can say: Wii: Broadway Processor.

Besides, the Wii has integrated WiFi (360 doesnt have integrated WiFi). The Wii also has internal storage. It has blueetooth too and it has a dvd drive just like the 360.

i agree with what everyone is saying...

they are all video game consoles, whos main focus is to play video games.

All three companies hope to get people to buy their systems to play video games, and then spend more money on video games...

If a person buys a Wii, it is to play video games and they are choosing to do it with nintendo instead of microsoft/sony. The only way the Wii could be considered "not competition" is if its sole target is different from that of MS/Sony. And the fact is they have the same goals! Sell consoles and games to people who want to play video games. The truth of the matter is nintendo has done something that the competition(yes, they are competition) would love to and thats capture the attention of the public. I find it quite silly the argument that MS/Sony are going after a different market... the only market all three companies want is the video game consumer market... they dont care who it is as long as their money goes into the register.

If Ninendo had that mentality they'd be bankrupt after the NES , the video game consumer market is far more complex and diverse for you to apply such a general lable.

My point isn't that they aren't "Competing" please read the OP prorpley, my point is that they aren't [direct] competitors.

It makes sense seeing as 3 consoles that are supposedly directly competing in the same market are all performing well .

Cmon , even the Nintendo DS and the 360 are "competing" to an extent , I'm sure people have had to choose between the two in the past , that's the exact definition of competion.

No, they aren't competing 'to an extent'.

They competing, period.  It's like saying an iPod doesn't compete with a surround sound system for a music lover's affection.

I was only citing examples to demonstrate my point , I think it's un-debatable that the PS3/360 are far more functional, advanced than the Wii. You get what you pay for.

Imperial, I think your thread headline isn't correct. It should be "who thinks Wii DOES NOT compete directly with xbox360/ps3".

wii number: 8166 7045 0170 7783 (don't forget to inform me if you add me)

The Wii is competing with the others. For example, wouldn't u say Kia is competing with Mercedes? Both make cars so both are competing with each other - no matter the price/features

If the Wii isn't in direct competition with the other consoles, the PS2 also wasn't in direct competition with the Xbox, GameCube and Dreamcast. 'Cause you know what?

Yeah, the PS2 was the casual shovelware machine last gen. How do you think it managed to sell over 120 million, by solely targeting the hardcore? With Spice Girls games, 50 cent, Singstar, Eye Toy, pet simulations, etc, etc?

Can we get a one hour ban on everyone who does this crap? I see it more and more these days. Sorry, but your opinion does not end the discussion. It's amazing how arrogant some people seem to be.

Not unless the lack of title editing has been fixed.

Anyone know if it has?
