Forums - Microsoft - First BK3 Screen Shots

I think we have far too many gaming geezers on these forums. I am talking about those geezers who have a hard time remembering blemishes in the past, and fixate on only the most positive aspects. The hindsight when it comes to Rare is frustratingly myopic.

Rare was and still is a wonderful developer. Despite the common misconception based on the ratings they are still about as good a developer for the 360 as they were for the 64. Bullshit you say he has to be lying through his pointy teeth. Based on IGN reviews Rare averages 8.4 for 360 games, and averages 8.7 for 64 games. By all means go do the math yourselves.

How could this be you might ask. The reality is while you fixate on Goldeneye, Banjo, Conker, and other highly acclaimed titles. You have forgotten that Rare also passed some very poor games through that Nintendo seal of Quality. Games such as Mickey's Speedway, Killer Instinct, and even Jet Force Gemini.

Ironically Rare has become a more consistent developer under Microsoft. Not only do they have a high average on the 360, but they are far more consistent. Which basically means that BK3 will probably rate no less then a 8.5/10. Which happens to be a very good score. I would dare say given the teams performance in the past that the game will probably score around a 9.5/10.

Can we move past this I am skeptical of Rare nonsense. Otherwise your basically saying you are overly skeptical of all developers everywhere in the world. Even Nintendo isn't averaging as well as Rare this generation scoring 8.2 rounding up. Damned those games used to move peripherals. So unless your going with the caveat that Nintendo is a shitty developer down on its luck. Then you have to basically concede that Rare is a very good developer.

Actually using Gamerankings.com and basing the lists of games off of those we have listed under Rare development in the VGchartz.com game database I came up with this:

N64 era: average 88.2%

360 era: average 82.4%

whether or not this is a huge drop is your opinion, I just wanted to see how the numbers you put out matched with what I could find for myself.

...

The first Banjo game Banjo-Kazooie sold about 3.2M with 1.86M from N.A, 1.23M E.U and 500K from Japan.
The second Banjo game Banjo-Tooie sold about 1.5M 810K N.A, 410K E.U and 230K Japan.

Most 360 owners haven't played a BK title and have the impression it is a kiddy title,
Unless the game has matured ala Conker.

Heeeeyyyy!!!! <Snap>

Oh come on Fonzerelli you can't dare say Conker is a more mature gaming series than Banjo! :P

 Blaspheme!
That game was brilliant, ok it took me about an hours play to get used to the odd controls but after that I loved it.

I can't speak for the other two as I don't have them.

______

Although I have not played them, (so I cannot really be used for any kind of reference) Perfect Dark Zero didn't look bad, but I imagine I would have preferred the original much more.

I have no idea what Kameo is

I liked the look of Viva Pinata so that would likely be my favourite Rare game since N64.

On the N64 I think you mention all of the games that gamers considered poor, whereas on XB/360 only 2/3 games would be considered better than the poor N64 ones.

Of course the total number of games Rare has made for any of the three platforms is tiny, but for the most part they are not as great as they were.

hmm new screenshots. A bit small but somehow they do not look as good as the ones above. Banyo looks weird (boxy) and the world somehow lacks charm. The textures are pretty awesome though.

wow wow wow. WOW. I cant wait for this game. GAME OF THE YEAR. This is gonna be awesome. It looks gr8 and no doubt the same team from the original will make it play gr8. Look at those pics it is oozing quality. I havent been this excited about screenshots since Mario 64.

LOOKS AMAZING.....especially the new screenshots

{slaps himself twice for saying something about 360}

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

Embargo is up, info is coming out now, sounds awesome.

Banjo (slated for November):
- Building vehicles is basically like playing with LEGO. You can <i>always</i> jump in and out of the vehicle editor and come right back to the game with the new design.
- Parts are easily placed and moved around. You don't have to worry about connecting the motor with the wheels for example. Just place everything so they stick together and don't get in the way.
- Vehicle designs can play a large role in missions. We saw one where you had to collect coconuts from a field and got a small truck that could suck them up. Unfortunately you couldn't fit all the coconuts in the truck and had to back and deliver them in a large barrel. We were then shown how you could create a helicopter with a hook, that could pick up this large barrel, fly to the coconut field and fly low to scoop the coconuts in the barrel.
- Physics are awesome in this game and everywhere! With one design I placed the foot-in-a-box weapon behind a propella, and when I tried to use it, the foot/boot couldn't get past the propella... well, until I used it enough times to actually kick the propella off the vehicle!
- Pixel art... imagine the possibilities (Rare already had an example of this, paying homage to a certain plumber)
- Multiplayer is great fun with the ability to either chose from pre-fabricated or own vehicle designs. It still needs some polish here and there, but showed great promise.
