Forums - Sony - Why does everyone hate FF VIII?

i love FF8 as much as FF7. both are different things but they are fun to play, and have deep touching stories. FF8 has classic dialogues. reading the characters' words and thoughts in that gray box is just simply awesome.

FF8 though is HATED....but nowhere near as hated a FF12
neither FFVIII or FFXII were hated, just very controversial

I actually like to not level in FF8 as enemy's become easier.

 Except enemies at island closest to hell and island closest to heaven

The real draw back is the gameplay. I couldn't stomach leveling them all to 99 and drawing more magics.

Cloud looks TONS better in KH. IMO, Cloud frm FF7 looks horrible.





KH Cloud <3 Even Sephiroth looks better.

Btw, I'm not done with FF8 yet. I'm in Ultimecia's Castle. I have to train because my levels are uber low lol. LIke Squall is in the 30s, Zell and Selphie in like 20s. X_X Can't beat many bosses like this. Adel was tough as hell X_X

I actually like FF8 alot but then again I'm a sucker for love stories.

My favorites are:

1: FF6
2: FF9
3: FF7
4: FF8
5: FF10

I wont even put FF 12 in the top 12

 

Still none of these games comes even too how great Xenogears was(still is), that game had the greatest love story ever created.



If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

yes I did I barely managed to play through once, the story sucked and I didnt even care what happened to the main characters.

FF12 is one of the most over hyped games ever.

 

I really hope FF13 dont turn to be like FF12

what was wrong with the story?  I only played the game for 20+ hours but so far I think the story is a good change of pace from previous installments

For me it's the best FF ever,, and the second one is FF Tactics,,,
Why i liked it:

- Music was fantastic (especially the boss themes, i still play them in mind)
- Great characters, especially Squall, i dont know why the hate, maybe i liked him so much cause he reminded me of myself in my youth :)
- CGI,, the intro is still the best intro movie for any game
- Huge world map
- Great set pieces (spoiler alert: Seifer countering and then destroying odin anyone ???)

- Fantastic story, i'm addicted to love stories
- The best minigame put in a videogame ever, the cards game (triple trial i guess)
- Best summons in any FF game (especially bahamut), i never got tired of their long scenes
- a lot of side quests (island closest to hell and heaven)
- i know that it was a departure than all FF regarding the magic system, but i liked the new.
