Numbers are the best way to provide a proper framework for analysis, and these numbers don't lie about what's happening on the ground. PS3 is enjoying the BEST surge of all consoles, but 360 and Wii are enjoying some nice gains as well. It's important to note since it's key to rmember that the goal isn't to brag about how many consoles you sell, but about how profitable your console is! Alot of fanboys love to rave about fanboy issues, but in REALITY, these are business units, not fanboy bragging clips!

I don't disagree with your basic premise but what are you basing the bolded part on?

The graph I posted above is the last 4 months which shows the Wii increasing and the PS3/360 staying roughly the same.

SURGE is the keyword. Wii is ofcourse blazing the charts and making Nintendo shareholders VERY happy, but Sony shareholders are even happier, since it looked like the console was going to crash and burn.

I don't disagree that the PS3 is doing much better now than last year but its not surging anymore was my point.  It has leveled off for now at a good sales rate.  But I know what you were getting at I think.

Current Estimates:

Wii - 40m - could be more depending on succses of Wii Fit
PS3 - 23m - could be more or less depending on Blu Ray adoption.
360 - 25m - only real chance of a big boost for 360 sales will be Gears of War 2.

Ali I'm assuming Microsoft drops all the Xbox 360 skus by $50-$100 and that for people looking for a cheap machine with similar games to PS3 it will be the best option at ~$225-$375 or something.

I don't see Sony dropping by more than $50 this year, so that favors Microsoft in the Americas where it is strongest. PS3 at $400/$500 vs. 360 at $280-$450 is less weighted toward 360 than PS3 at $350/$450 vs. 360 at $225-$375, but since I expect the latter to occur after it becomes evident that GTA helped PS3 more than 360, I think Microsoft will react strongly to continue selling a bunch of 360s.

But if we have to believe the news, Sony has been much more aggressive in implementing cost cutting for PS3 than MS is for XBOX 360.

So i m not sure Sony will sit still if XBOX is available for $225.. and from the actions and statements of Sony it look to me they have alreay decide one more price drop for PS3 before the end of this yr whether MS do it or not..
