edit:  This thread was created to counter idiocy of people yelling "ripoff" when another company mentions fitness.

So when did another company mention fitness? I am confused. Did MS or Sony state they are coming out with a fitness game, and Nintendo fans yell "ripoff"? Did I miss that thread?

Well, there was a thread about MS pushing DDR as an exercise game. It's not really a ripoff, but it was clearly a half-assed attempt to counter Wii Fit.

Well that's not entirely inaccurate. I think DDR had a calorie counter on for a while. Long before WiiFit was ever thought of. So at some level, fitness was thought about in the game. To call WiiFit some kind of ripoff because of it however is ridicules.

Around the Network

There have been fitness games since the NES days but nothing so interactive or thorough.

It doesn't have a balance board so i wouldn't say it's a rip-off ;P

As for the Atari board, it was a large joystick circuit you stood on. It had 4 input points just like the joystick...up, down, left and right. That's it.

@Op all i see here is troll thread. Wii Fit is highly original and innovative. ioi himself says Wii Fit is one of the most unique experiences ever.

Around the Network

No, wii fit is way better

We caught us a troll threader! I blame Wii Fit!

The iPod wasn't the first electronic music player.

Windows was not the first gui OS for personal computers.

Google was not the first internet search engine.

Being first =/= Being the winning product

those aren't necessarily the best, either. So we know that YourselfFit, Kinetics, DDR, etc came before WiiFit. Props to Nintendo for advancing this "genre" and convincing a lot of housewives that they should get a videogame system just to workout. I wouldn't call it the most cost effective form of fitness, but perhaps it will expand the gaming audience more. Edit: and by advnacing the genre I meant expanding it, because DDR is far better for getting into shape.

Actually, Wii Fit is still better.  DDR focuses largely one on thing while Wii Fit targets many aspects of health and fitness.

it's a nice try towards a new market. it's been tried before but now the market is more ready for it. hurray for nintendo to dare try something new.
