Forums - Gaming - Underestimated games of 2008

I thought the Wii version of Alone In The Dark showed great potential.
I noticed the motion controls gameplay video, worked very well with the wiimote & nunchuck combo.
The game has FPS, TPS elements depending upon the weapon and items being used. The inventory system under the coat looked confusing.
The motion driving system looked hit or miss.

LBP has me confused, because it's basically either completely overlooked by half the gaming population, or incredibly overhyped by the other half.

I'm curious to see how it pans out. I think it looks fascinating, but I'm not sure it's the revolutionary experience some are building it up to be. With the majority of the content to be user created, how will that sell it to the vast majority of "casual" players that have no interest in building their own levels, and just want to buy a game and play it? If GTA released and gave buyers the city and a handful of missions, and then told them to make their own story and missions, would it be as popular? Hard to say.

While I hope it ends up a quality game, I'm not sure it will be a huge seller, since it's one of those games you probably have to play to get the idea behind it. It isn't like GTA where you can have a 30 second commercial that adequately portrays the product. If you show a clip of burlap men hopping around a bizarre environment, and then throw the words "LittleBigPlanet" on the screen, the majority response will probably be along the lines of "WTF?" What LBP will need is the Wii Sports response when someone new plays it, along the lines of "Wow, this is cool, I should buy this system". Whether it achieves that or not is the real trick.

The dedication you show to any particular console or company is inversely proportional to the number of times you have gotten laid. If you get laid enough, even if you prefer a certain brand, you just don't give enough of a shit to argue about it on the internet.

I haven't but all the previews say its the best direction the franchise could go in & the general response from people who have been shown it is phenomenal...little could go wrong here RocketPig...

They're removing half of the features of what made the Fallout series great in favor of putting Oblivion in a Fallout setting.

A lot can go wrong there, especially for those of us who loved the Fallout games.

Everyone is saying how they will market it massively, and that will sell it, but I don't get how that will happen. The best way would be to do what AC did, and buy out all the ads of a show, and showcase it fully through that. Billboards and stuff won't work quite as well, unless of course there are quotes of 10/10 from places like IGN etc. GTA IV sells itself by the name, but this game certainly needs more explanation

ZOMG!!!

How did you guys forget Deadliest Catch and Ninja's vs. Pirates Dodgeball ??

Prepare to be underwhelmed... I mean overwhelmed !!!

I think that it is very easy to expect games to get 8/10 (or better) and sell millions of copies when all you can base your opinions on are overly optimistic previews, screenshots and videos.
