HOW can u put HALf LIFE ?

Even if this game was amazing some years ago, the story was common and poor. You may have been seduced by the fact the story takes place directly in the FPS view (no cinematic) but it doesn't change the story is poor.

my choose :

(very hard in fact because you are looking for high standard rejecting 99% of the videogames ...)

Planetscape Torment

They are also plenty of games with epic (immature or not) story and great character that were pretty good to me including FFVII, FFT, MGS, SH, AnotherWorld, System Shock, Vagrant Story and maybe some others I dont remember right now

I was being cheeky with the Half-Life comment.

I need to play Planetscape all the way through. It's been a long time and I didn't get much time with the game.

Eternal Darkness.

Phoenix Wright series.

SimCity - Ok, not really story wise but still takes some brains to make it work good.

I dunno. As awesome as Eternal Darkness is... it's a lovecraft ripoff in many respects.

I mean i'd consider the Romance of the Three Kingdoms games smart but they're based off like a book with over 1,000 pages.

Portal, but that one's already been mentioned.
Assassin's Creed's story was kind of nice in the end, but that game sucked for the biggest part.
If I had ever played Majora's Mask I would put it here, but I haven't (please Nintendo, put it on the VC)
I guess Half-Life, but that's more the feeling you get of it than the story.

But most of the games I play don't focus on the story but on gameplay, so I can't really say if something is as ''intellectual'' as Portal, or Grim Fandango :P

@Imperial: are you being sarcastic? Because I find it strange if someone who doesn't want to play ''smart'' games to be on a forum that's about statistics.

1- King Quest
2- Maniac Mansion
3- Dragon Warrior IV

Eternal Darkness

The Kingdom Hearts Series. A brilliant story about the darkness in everyone, how it can even turn the strong into essentially two different beings (a Nobody and a Heartless), with a large dose of putting your friends before yourself.

Brilliant.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

Tag, courtesy of fkusumot: "Why do most of the PS3 fanboys have avatars that looks totally pissed?"
"Ok, girl's trapped in the elevator, and the power's off.  I swear, if a zombie comes around the next corner..."

Mario's Missing... haha just kidding.

Probably Silent Hill 2, but not because story, but because the characters and everything they represent in the game. The monsters are not just monsters, but represent something in the mind of the character.

Joke list :

1-Mortal Kombat 2
2-Super Mario Bros 2 (aka dokki dokki panikku)
3-Double Dragon 2

Honorable mention : Street Fighter 2

^Hey, all those franchises got their own movies! That says something!

Viewtiful Joe

Seppukuties is like LBP Lite, on crack. Play it already!
