Forums - Nintendo - My first brief impression of the "Nintendo Channel" – What are yours?

So I got the Nintendo Channel up and running yesterday and played around on it for about an hour.

My first thoughts were that the videos look WAY better than the junk we got on the Metroid preview channel.

Secondly I noticed that it was running really smoothly.  Now I do not have a super high speed connection (5meg) and I am using the wireless setting on my Wii to get to the internet.  The channel connected fast, videos loaded quickly and I did not notice any hiccups.

Then I decided to try the DS download area which I was most anticipating.  There were a decent selection of games and I went to download one and WOW, it was fast.  It was probably 5-10 times faster then any station I have been to in town you know at the Toys-R-Us or Gamestop or BestBuy.

Well, this is my 2 cents for the first little bit of the Nintendo Channel.  What do you guys think?

Here's what I said over at GoNintendo.com:

When I jumped into the channel yesterday I expected things to be pretty slim. It just launched and it most likely launched just to give Wii Fit a bigger push which to me is fine.

I want to see EVERY wii and DS game get a video, a synopsis, some screen shots and box art. That way everyone can search for whatever game they may be thinking about getting and have a look see before they buy it.

I also want to see Nintendo do something for the core gamer with it’s VC games. I want to see VC games get their original promo’s put up on the channel with new video’s of gameplay. I also expect original box art and any cool things they used to advertise the game originally included in this channel. This would go a long way to gain respect from “core” gamers as nostalgia would win us all over.

1 last thing…. WHY JUST 8 DS DEMO’s???? Surely they could have thrown up all the other DS demo’s they’ve ever used for everyone to try out. This is kinda silly to me.

--------------------- End of Cut------------->

Also, is it just me or is this the worst layed out channel/piece of software that Nintendo has ever had a hand in? Was someone asleap at the wheel when they passed this channel? Why do I have to search for things by randomly clicking on things? I'm going to bet a lot of people will never even see that there are DS demo's available in the channel due to the awkward menu system.

Prepare for termination! It is the only logical thing to do, for I am only loyal to Megatron.

I don't really care about the Nintendo Channel actually.

My impression is that Ninja Gaiden Dragon Sword is pretty damn sweet. I might just be picking it up in the future.

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

DarkNight - I did think the same thing about the DS downloads. I had to click around the second time on there just to remember where it was. The layout was a little silly, but not that bad.

I was impressed with the layout, everything was pretty much right there.

Also at the guy above >.> there is a search option you know.

It's not like Xbox live where it's on casual (retard) mode and clicking 4 different buttons lead you to the exact same menu.

It's very blunt and to the point, I like that.

The entire thing deals with gaming in some way.

Aparantly the even went the extra length to make relative the gaming terms as to how games are recognized, 'core or casual'. I mean they basically bent over backwards to make it short and sweet.

In the end, I'm impressed, this could put Wiiconnect24 to very good use.

I’m curious, did you ever click on the “Find titles for me” button? Because that let’s you search for games by, name, genre, publisher, and system. There’s also a completely separate section labeled “DS Demos”.

I think maybe he needs an overly blown up condeluted system that has several buttons meaning the same thing.

ie.
Portable Demos
DS Demos
Hand Held Previews & Demos
Palm held gaming portions for your testing purposes

Then everything becomes crystal - maybe it's too core XD?

Either way it's a wicked piece of software and worth my 0 dollars... wait a sec err..

lol was thinking the same thing, really like the demo system

I think it's a great addition, and it'll get even better provided they update it regularly and actually put it to use. That's the thing I'm sort of worried about.. they haven't really done anything like this before, so I'm concerned they'll just half do it and not maintain it well enough to make it really useful. I guess time will tell =p
