Forums - Sales - The Gap between PS3 and Xbox 360

I don't think many people will go to a store to buy a 360 to play Gears of War or Halo 3 anymore. They might pick it up with some other titles or it could be one of the titles they're interested in and make them buy a 360, but those titles are not the main reason anymore for people to pick up a 360. If it was then they would have done so by now. Of course the complete library of games will play a factor in purchase decisions of consumers, but if you think 2 or 3 games will completely change the outcome of the console war then you're wrong. Well, I can see 1 game which has been that influential, but it is called Wii Sports and is neither on Xbox 360 or PS3.

Edit: I'll also answer your next post here as well. You didn't mention talking about exclusives in your post so I assume you say all games released on PS3 before GTA IV fell short of being system sellers. I didn't put the bar that high to be called a system seller, you did that yourself. But from this list:

GT5
MGS4
FF13
Resistance 2
Killzone 2
LBP
Motorstorm 2
Tekken 6
etc.

Everything below FF13 is uncertain to be system seller by that standard and 2 of the 3 will most likely not be released in 2008.

Well, you don't talk that much with people interested in buying a 360 do you? And the neverending cry of xbots about the 360 having "the games", it's all talk about Gears and Halo my friend. Believe it, the big exclusive franchises have a big weight on the decision for those who are on the edge between one console or another.

I never said 2 or 3 games change the outcome of a console war. I just stated facts. Fact : Major franchises (exclusive or not) sell lots of systems.

Fact: 360 exclusive Killer Apps : Halo, Gears of War
PS3 exclusives 'Killer Apps" : None

Fact : PS3 "without games" and one year behind 360, $100+ more expensive = 360 sales lead 5 million (Yours truly, Aaron Greenberg).

Fact : PS3 has a stronger exclusive lineup this year than 2007: GT5: P (even if it's effect was mostly felt in Europe), Metal Gear Solid 4, Resistance 2, to name a couple of tested franchises.

There is more of course, and I'm with you when you say they could end up being duds just like it happened with Lair and Heavenly Sword. But just with a couple great exclusive pushers and some other very good ones, adding to that the same strong third-party support coming to 360 too, it's undeniable fact the PS3 is selling a lot better this year.

There is no denying PS3 isn't selling better than last year, it is slowly gaining ground on the Xbox 360. And PS3 should end up with more exclusives than 2007, cause at least sales wise you could say they had none that year. Whether they will have more and better ones than Xbox 360 is unclear though, only time will tell.
I just don't think single titles are that important for the success of a console. You need to keep releasing new games to attract new gamers as well as keeping your current userbased interested in your system.

Sony do not really have to do to much. The question is what can Microsoft do to keep the lead longer

Well when it comes to exclusives and hardware sales take a nice long look at the psp in Japan

I dont understand how u people are thinking. first lets look at the consoles yes 360 launched on 1 year ahead of ps3 us and 16 months in europe its not an excuse but still, look at the games overall 360 has better games, exclusives like halo 3 gears of war bioshock mass effect. ps3 has uncharted gt5p ratchet and clank tod motorstorm and resistance 1. Then there are multi like cod4 dmc4 r6v2 army of 2 not too mentaion gta4 and many others so the 360 has more and better games on the market right now and everybody says that its a perfect game console for gamers and yet it gets outsold buy ps3 by almost 100 k and by a console wich costs almost twice as much thats why i cant believe how people can say that its bad that the ps3 only outsold 360 by 100 ki think that its awful for 360 that it didnt outsold the ps3.

Ignoring the real statistics are we? There is no way Sony can chance up to MS at this point, let alone make a profit. There is a whole thread on how much money Sony is losing on the PS3 (3.3 billion roughly); maybe you should take a look before you decide to post something like this.

MS are going to try and rush out a new console as soon as possible so they can say:

'Z0MG PS3 BEET UZ BI ONLY LIEK 10 MILION CONSOLESSSS!!!111!1111'

It really is sad that even with an ENTIRE YEAR'S headstart, look at the position MS have found themselves in. No-one to blame but themselves I suppose.

MGS4!

You realize that this thread was dead for two months, right warmachine?
