A Jrpg means Japanese Rpg. This means the style of the game is similar to most japanese rpgs, and most of the time comes from japan. Jrpgs are usually more story centric, and linear( having one main quest, and one ending) while wrpgs(western) are more genuine to the definiton of a rpg. Wrpgs usually have more of a free roaming feel to them, have many things to do besides the main quest, and don't have predetermined characters, and stories. You usually choose roles more in western rpgs. There are many more differences, but those are the basic ones.
edit: ALso jrpgs are mostly turnbased while wrpgs are usually action or a mix of both action and turns.
