Forums - Gaming - 20 Exclusives for the PSP this year - Read on (and see why you need a PSP)

gesh the only game here that I want to play is Earthworm Jim. =/ I think its very unlikely we'll see Dissidia: Final Fantasy in 2007. Maybe 2008, just look at how long it took Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII to come out. As for the PSP out selling the original DS, I'm calling BS on that. Sure at launch it was really close with the PSP having a slight lead to the DS, but once the wow factor wore off and people came to the realization that their were no games and the DS took off then the DS over took it. It was the games that pushed the DS way past the PSP not the redesign. I'm pretty sure the redesign happened after the DS took off. I think its HIGHLY unlikely that a redesigned PSP will push units infact I think its just going to fizzle out. I really think its to little to late for the PSP. It will have its nitch market but its never going to out do the DS and its always going to be a distance 2nd. But we should at least be happy it hasn't died out like all the other pass handhelds that have gone up against Nintendo.

Currently playing:

I dunno. I'm not really interested in any of these. Final Fantasy Tactics was a good game, but for slightly prettier graphics I'm certainly not going to pay 40 bucks when I already own it. I could care less about ANOTHER FFVII game. I wasn't that big an FFVII fan in the first place (my favorites are VI, IX, and IV) so I really don't see myself paying for that. Especially considering how bad their last milking attempt (Dirge of Cerberus) was.

I'm sure God of War will be a really fun game, but I have already played it twice.  God of War and God of War 2 were great games but let's face it: they were damn near identical to each other. I really don't want to buy a PSP again to play the same game a 3rd time but on a smaller screen with worse graphics. I may be interested in Dissidia if I had ANY idea what it is (which no one does). Also Dissidia and Crisis Core are 08 PSP releases in North America not 07. Crisis Core isn't even out in Japan till september, and Dissidia doesn't even have an 07 Japanese release date. So yeah, you really should keep your list 2007 releases if you are going to make it "Why you need a PSP this year" rather than "Why you need a PSP eventually."

Still, although none of these really appeal to me I'm sure they are awesome for some people. They all look great too. The obviously put a lot of effort into polishing the graphics. It's looking like it will be a good couple of years for PSP owners.

Edit: I'll go ahead and start on a DS version as long as no one else has.

t takes more than a redesign of the hardware.
I really disliked the original bulky DS design, but now me and my girlfriend both own a DS-lite. We love light-hearted games for on the road, But the PSP is clearly much more powerful in terms of graphics (+larger display), possible game complexity and multi-media features. I think Sony did really well distinguishing itself from Nintendo's offerings, if they wouldn't have I think Sony wouldn't have succeeded in penetrating the Nintendo dominated handheld games market.

Sure the PSP is more expensive and this is also a factor in the device selling less than the NDS, but the device judged for itself 20 million sales is already most excellent. The best competition Nintendo has seen since the launch and success of the original Gameboy (BTW the Lynx and GameGear were also technically more powerful around that time, but they were failures due to various reasons)

Naughty Dog: "At Naughty Dog, we're pretty sure we should be able to see leaps between games on the PS3 that are even bigger than they were on the PS2."

PS3 vs 360 sales

The DS got a redesign because it was selling less than the PSP...once the DSLite appeared...the DS took off.

It takes more than a redesign of the hardware. At the time the DSlite was launched, also the brain games hype started and games like Nintendogs and Animal Crossing helped a lot too. 2 or 3 months after the DSlite launched, New Super Mario Bros was released and there you had the killer catalogue of games that made the DS so popular.

It's delusional to think that a PSP redesign will result in much higher sales, because the PSP will still have the same games for the same demographics as before. It's great that the PSP gets more original games now and less PS2 ports, but those exclusive games are for the same audience that bought the PS2 ports before.

The DS took off because of the combination of better designed hardware and software that expanded the market. I can't see Sony doing the same in the near future.

People keep saying this, but how is Crush or Lumines or Gunpey or Parappa for the same audience? These are all not your usual console game.

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!

Can they even make the Psp any smaller ?

They're going to make it thinner and bigger screen.

I'm generally more of a PS fan, but didn't Konami say that Silent Hill was impossible on the Wii? Then how the hell will it be any good on the PSP. It's technically worse than the Wii (obviously). But not only that but I'm not ganne be able to get the atmosphere on a small screen like that whilst sitting on the bus! The other games great look good to great, but I don't see how Silent Hill will work on any portable device... EVER!

A bit off-topic but... I highly recommend to buy Killzone: Liberation and download new patch. With pretty cool multi player mode this game has a new flavour. Also new chapter in campaign added.

Has the PSP revision been confirmed? By the way, the Nintendo DS really needed that revision. It looked like a pile of shit before.

FFT is being completely retranslated, new artistic cinematics were added throughout, and 2 new classes are available. It's not "slightly" prettier. You're not a fan of FF7...ok, well it's only the best selling RPG ever, so a lot of people are. Crisis Core is not Dirge of Ceberus, this is an RPG. yes, God of War will be a fun game, have a completely new story (before events of GoW1), and look just as good considering the PSP is almost as powerful as a PS2.

I think more than "some people" will be pleased with the lineup, and I agree with you that it will be a good couple of years, at least.
