Forums - General - Do "Green" issues affect your buying choice?

With increasing environmental concern, and companies regularly touting their green credentials, I was wondering whether the environmental reputation of a company would affect whether or not you would buy a product from them. If it would impact your choice, then where would you list it in terms of importance compared to other factors such as price?

What, you mean would Greenpeace giving Nintendo 0 marks prevent me from buying their products? Hell no.

Not in any way shape or form. Price, usability and desirability all rate higher.

Well since this is a fanboy dominated site, I wouldn't expect it to impact on console choice, I mean on more everyday products or electronics upon which you are impartial

No, if something goes on about how it saves CO2 I generally avoid it. Having looked at all these things at school, there are just such massive holes in the arguement it is difficult to comprehend how the world is now convinced that CO2 is going to destroy the world. I have no problem with the theory of global warming (though not in the last few years) but the idea that it is cause by CO2 is just plain wrong

I don't only mean in terms of CO2 emissions, I mean anything like whether they are ethically sourced, whether they are biodegradable or whether they contain toxic chemicals etc

No, green issues do not affect my purchases. The last thing in the world I want to be known as is Someone Who Cares.

Or check out my new webcomic: http://selfcentent.com/

On items that are 100$ or less I will pay up to a 20% premium to buy an alternative that is more ecologically friendly (sustainably sources, biodegradable, made from recycled goods, recyclable). On items that are more than 100%, generally a 10% premium.

Luckily, the cost of most ecologically friendly products are negligibly higher, at least in my experience. So often times, there is no reason not to go that route.

BTW, you did not answer your own question, Solojohlo.

Nope, they don't have any effect on my willingness to buy them over something else. In fact sometimes I go out of my way to buy things that are not green. I love the environment and all cuz it's where I live, but I heartily disagree with environmentalist extremists.

Not at all.
