Forums - Sony - Who here is buying MGS 4 despite playing the first three?

I've never played the others, but I'll likely be getting this in a few months. I'm thinking of picking up that triple pack soon to catch myself up.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

A lot of people in here are going to be severely disappointed :P

I'll be buying MGS4. I played the first on PS1 and loved it. It was the first "cinematic" game I had played and remains one of my favorite games of that generation.

I skipped most of last gen (PS2/Xbox/GC) because of college so I only played a few of the big titles of that time. I did pick up MGS2 and loathed it. I felt the story was a huge letdown from the first and never finished the game. I didn't like Raiden at all either and was a big turnoff that you play most of the game as him. Because of the bad taste it left I skipped #3 altogether. I heard 3 was much better then the second and some even say better then the original but I never did get the chance to play it.

The story and gameplay looks incredible in this newest game so I'm excited about picking this one up.

If you want to delve deep into the story you're not too late, just go to Gamefaqs and read some plot summaries.

I strongly suggest to everyone to buy the MGS-Essential bundle if you want to get the most out of MGS 4.

Its a rental for me, im probably not going to buy it... i'll only play it once and ill gamefly it. I hated the controls on MGS2 so im wary of this one, no matter how good it looks.

Tease.

"is it Wii FIt that has sold as many as PS3's sold? Thats a LOL Look at the total sales of software is it just me that sees Nintendo titles hitting 10m+ and you say they arent making a difference? Another LOL!"

"Hell, with all the negative hype Sony spin, people just aren't interested cost is too high and to get the true HD experience (1080p, 7.1 surround) you will need a $1000+ system. THAT IS GOING TO DO IT IN A RECESSION! PS4 will not happen"

MGS4 helps out those who have no knowledge of the previous games. During cutscenes you'll have the option to view flashbacks from previous games that will help you understand what's going on.

If you haven't played the first three, the most important element of the game, imho (the story) won't be as rewarding. Do yourselves a favor and buy MGS: The Essential Collection. 3 games for $30 is a steal.

Ive only played 10 min of the 3rd one, and immediatly got sick of sitting there waiting for the characters for stop talking. Havent touched it since.
