I would strongly reccomend not buying MGS4 then.

Yeah it was an error on my part but i think everyone got the meaning and i just want to know how many people outside the core MGS fans(myself) will buy it.
I have a colleague who is getting MGS4 and is new to the series, purely because he bought PS3 for Blu-Rays and thinks that this game will have amazing graphics.

MGS 4 is a easy pick up and play action game that will have wide appeal to fans of the MGS series and to newbies to the MGS series. MGS 4 on the PS3 will be a great game and in my opinion a better game than GTA IV. |
true.
mgs4 will appeal to people who have not played the 1st 3 in the series, and to the people who have played the 1st 3, it would be an even more reason to make the purchase.
i highly recomend if anyone has acess to psn, to take a look at the 10min gameplay demo for mgs4. i can tell you now it looks nothing short of awesome, release day for mgs4 will be a monumentous day in gaming.
this game will be over heavily pushed by konami and sony into the market, and will almost certainly move more systems than gta4 can, especially in japan.
2008 is a great year for the "console of choice"
...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

This is why i hate western oriented games and prefer japanese developed games because western developed games rarely invoke emotion into an epic story mixed in with over the top action,just run and gun gameplay with no real substance outside of that.With that said you wont like MGS4 if your looking for COD4.
If people are buying MGS4 solely for the gameplay, I have a feeling you'll be dissapointed. Previous MGS games had a roughly 50/50 split of cutscenes and gameplay and if you skip the cutscenes it'll be very short.

What.
The MGS games aren't meant to be taken seriously, story-wise. In fact, I'd argue that COD4's single-player campaign probably invokes more real emotion in the player than MGS4's will. (If you've played COD4, you'd understand.)
Also, most Japanese games have terrible stories.
Edit: On topic, I'm definitely interested in playing MGS4, so long as they actually have a HUD radar this time around. (Stupid unplayable MGS3.) It's not a system seller for me, though, so I'll pick it (and a PS3) up once I run out of things to play on my 360. :)
"'Casual games' are something the 'Game Industry' invented to explain away the Wii success instead of actually listening or looking at what Nintendo did. There is no 'casual strategy' from Nintendo. 'Accessible strategy', yes, but ‘casual gamers’ is just the 'Game Industry''s polite way of saying what they feel: 'retarded gamers'."

I will be buying it, definitely... i am so hyped about the game that i ready the storyline of the previous 3 in order to be prepared for 4. However, it seems that even if you don't do as i did, the trailers are pretty much self explanatory in terms of the story and there will be no problem for anyone to pick it up.....
most ps3 owners i know are hyped about this game, and it's still 6 weeks away....
That should tell everyone of how successful the game will be...
PSN ID: T_Gears
End of 2009 ltd sales:
Wii = 67-68m
X360 = 38-39m
PS3 = 34-35m
Prediction: The PS3 will surpass the 360 on weekly sales after it drops to $299 on all regular weeks (no big releases).
I've only played MGS2 which I really enjoyed.
I'm getting MGS4 becuase it looks great, and it's going to give me hours of entertainment this summer.

It's really not necessary to know the back story in order to enjoy the game. Metal Gear Solid games can all be played on their own. There will be many references you won't understand, yes, but the gist of what's going on will always be independent of the other games.
The original MGS has a lot of references to the old Metal Gear games, none of which I've played to this day. But I fully enjoyed the game back then and still do now, it's not something that prevents a comprehension of the storyline of the particular MGS game you're playing.
