Forums - Website Topics - Tips For Submitting Games To The Database, Screenshots, Summaries, Etc

@elgefe: Thanks bud. You've done a lot of good for the DB yourself. In particular, you, norlead, pichu, and blaiyan keep us busy! I'd say you guys are responsible for 90% or more of the submissions I've come across.

@norlead: Hmm...Hhhhhmmmmmmmmmm....I dunno about that. It does stick out when you click the pics. I'm pretty cautious, so I'd lean towards no, but I'll leave this up to Talon or ioi. But honestly, I don't see why the publisher would care about us using those pics to represent/promote their game.

@Talon, Ok, no problem (except that you will have to remove them, as I can't). Like I said, they were from the publisher, and I didn't see them until after submittal.

Also, slightly off topic, but I think we need to be able to have more than 18 pictures per game. There was one game I took like 50 screens (it was a multi game cartridge) and I didn't realize I can only upload 18.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

I always check if the game is already in the database, and also I Copy/paste from the sources for Publisher and names.
I use gamefaqs for the most of the games I add and thanks for mentioning me quigon :)

@norlead...
In fact you can upload 20 pics... but if you pass from 16 the system will not allow you to upload the rest.

The watermark rule is going to difficult the Screen Submissions... but I was thinking about that before...
For my NES submit I will use Emulators to take the Screen shots, look at Krion Konquest at example..

Also If DKII and ioi are ok, I wil like to help on the games database administration.

I'm just going to point out that no one, in this thread, has spelled my name correctly. In fact, it has been the same misspelling every time :-\

The watermark rule should have been common sense before it was even stated. The tough game to get screen shots for are the new games (granted, some new games are easy to get screens for). Older games (NES, SNES, N64 era) are much easier to get screens for, either through emulation, or the internet.

I just read and notice that you are correct about the misspell...

@pichu: I figured you used that method, as you are very accurate with you submissions, along with the others I mentioned earlier. Gamefaqs is my number one source too.

@norDlead: D'OH! As much as we've dealt with each other, you'd think I would have caught that before.

I still want to know if anyone has another good source to use. Gamefaqs and Gamestats seem to have almost everything covered, but I'd like another site for use to settle differences between the two. Preferably one that covers the 1970's up to the present time, with release dates and publishers for all regions.

Ha, I love you Contributors. You guys are reliable and hard working. Most of the stupid and/or crappy submissions are from people completely new to the site with no idea of anything. I think we may have to create a list of people who we can trust, and those we actually have to check their data on.

As for Gamefaqs, it seems to be missing a lot of North American release dates for a lot of games, which really annoys me. IGN has a lot of fake release dates too, and Gamespot has pretty much the same information as Gamefaqs. I think Gamefly has good info, although I'm not sure about hat.

Thanks for all the work contributors! You guys are a blessing.

Montana, I'm not aware of Gamefaqs missing NA release dates to any unusual degree. On Gamefaqs, older games often have only the year of release for NA, but newer releases almost always have the dates.

About Gamefly, I just went there and did a search for "BurgerTime" and "Burger Time", which had no results. If I'm not mistaken, that is a rental site(only newer stuff I assume). We need sources that cover games from the old days up until today. I'm fine just using Gamefaqs and Gamestats, but want to know of other viable alternatives if there are any.

About the list idea, it's something I've considered before. Not so much a "trust" list, but a "do not trust" list. Most of the bad submissions seem to be spur of the moment things from people who don't really take part in the DB. Still, I wouldn't put people on the list just for goofing up, only folks who don't seem to care about their submissions even after we give them a nice PM explaining things. For instance, if a person can't be bothered to capitalize a game title, they don't need to be submitting games in the first place.
